mediocre

by tnle31 at Citysearch

my husband and i were in Miami for my birthday weekend. We decided to try a a new restaurant in SouthBeach. I chose this restaurant based on the reviews and their menu selection. We decided to try their Tasting Menu. For $120/person for a 5 course meal, we were both disappointed. The food was ok, nothing to rave about. We had the Kobe style slice beef on the menu, and even that did not get our tastebuds jumping. The drinks were clearly overpriced as all places in South Beach. OUr dinner bill totaled $350 for two people. Should have spent the money elsewhere.

  • Pros: Ambience, good menu selection
  • Cons: cost. food was average for the price they charge

Fell short of expectations...

by aventurafoody at Citysearch

On a Sat. night arrived first to discover the hotel would not allow us to valet park at The Regent even though we had a table reservation. Said they were full, totally unexcuseable. We were seated at 11pm for our 9pm reservation for 4 people. I was a mob scene trying to get a table, also unexcuseable. The music playing was uncomfortably loud forcing our party to shout to one another over dinner. The surrounding diners were generally intoxicated and shouting to one another. NOW for the good news, the food was very good and tasty. The service was average, well better than average for Miami standards. Very expensive for a night that needed exceptional tolerance for such an establishment...sorry I really could not recommend this restaurant based on the screw-ups we experienced.

A Perfect SOBE Evening! Shocking how low the competition will stoop......

by lp1972 at Citysearch

I was shocked to over hear at a restaurant the other night an off-duty employee tell a friend the following MY FRIEND: "have you been to Table 8 yet" EMPLOYEE: "No, but I hear it's amazing, food service, the whole nine yards" MY FRIEND: "Can a new place cut into your business noticeably?" EMPLOYEE: "Sure. and take a look at the awful reviews I've posted on web-sites, to do what I can for our cause"

WOW! How low. So I had the friend I was visiting take me the next night to see for myself, and he was right, that guy's restaurant should be worried about Table 8 taking business. We couldn?t get a table cause it was Super Bowl weekend, buy we sat at the inside bar and had a meal to die for! My fois gras (there's a ban in my hometown. Chicago) was heavenly and my grouper was perfectly cooked and wrapped in ham, or Prosciutto I believe.

My friend, who had originally wanted to go to the best steak house in SOBE, was thrilled to see that there was a Kobe style steak on the menu and a Cowboy Cut Rib-Eye, and plenty of other things for meat eaters. We were told that the sides were a new addition and we went with our waiter?s suggestion of creamed Swiss chard. I'd never heard of it, but it was amazing! We also tried a short-rib hash at the waiters pushing, and though I?m not a meat eater, my friend was in heaven.

The bartended really knew the food, surprisingly, as I?ve heard service is terrible in Miami (when was the last time a waiter offered you a black napkin because you were wearing a black skirt!?)

A couple next to us did send something back because it was too rare, but the server was apologetic and it came back moments later to rave reviews from them.

We moved to the very beautiful lounge for desert and champagne and it was a perfect way to cap a great experience. We shared a big lounge table with a great group in from NY, and they had had a wonderful dinner as well. I will be back and hopefully soon!

  • Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, paople
  • Cons: hard to get a table

It could get better

by rmamo at Citysearch

I had dinner there with my girlfriend and it wasn't as bad as you all say after all... It is true that they could do better... The hostess spoke sooooo fast that we had to repeat the conversation three times!!! And she did not speak spanish at all, which is a shame in Miami. She pretty much forced us to go sit at the bar but thankfully we didn't wait more than 10 minutes. We DIDN'T HAVE THE CHANCE to meet a bartender so we saved our decisions for dinner. The place was crowded and music was actually nice. The AC could use some touch ups and be moved away from the customers. Our waitress was a beautiful blond but didn't speak spanish either. Our drinks took forever to get to the table and we didn't even have menus to look at. At least, the drinks were good. When she gave us the menus she started acting like a robot. She talked and talked about her two favorite dishes and then disappeared. Of course, I had to translate it all to my girlfriend as well as the rest of the menu. The apps were great and came out fast. We did wait a lot longer for the entrees. I fell in love with my lamb dish and my wife really enjoyed her grouper. The tuna app was actually fantastic but very small on our opinion. We got a dessert called 3by8 and it was very good. We were never offered any coffee and when we got our check, she never told me about the gratuity being included. You have to pay attention on that if you go. I hated that. My point: The place is beautiful, food is great and the location can't get any better. But I'm sure that with a more intelligent waitress or waiter, a few more bartenders and a hostess without diva attitude, it could really get to be "the spot". I recommend you to try it. RM

  • Pros: food and also the spot itself. It's amazing.
  • Cons: AC, hostess and not being told about gratuity.

read me!

the food was good (what i would expect).the desserts arent worth their calories and the dining room still looks like a hotel restaurant, i has nothing special. i've been to better places. and the kicker of it all was the service--snooty. not to mention greedy. the bill was 191 with 2 glasses of wine. so we paid in cash (mistake) and waited for change....and waited....and waited....finally no change. the waiter kept over 10 dollars. after 30 min. we left. the funny part is that the tip was included and she didn t mention anything. i'm glad i didn't hold my breath.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: none

We loved it. One of the best so far.

We had a great time at Table 8. Everyone there was friendly and efficient. The wine list contained amazing selections and the sommelier was very helpful in choosing our wine for the evening. The appetizers made it to the table pretty fast. We tried the tuna and the foie. Both exquisite. We then had to wait a bit longer for the entrees but it was worth it. I had the lamb (as our waiter described and highly recommended) and my wife had the beef. We really enjoyed them both. The music could have been better and a bit louder but the whole experience was great. Our waiter was friendly and always had a good answer for all of our questions. Oh! , and he informed us about the gratuity being included. That was nice. I appreciated it. The place is beautiful and also the people. I recommend it.

  • Pros: great food and service plus amazing location
  • Cons: Music... not too bad but should get better.
