Ruined a nice experience
by missfernandez at Citysearch
Wonderful food, great drinks, nice ambiance.
Then I check my CC bill. On the bill at the end of the night, 18% gratuity was included. Great, fine, it's south beach, i'll pay it. My total was $70. When I checked my CC statement, they had charged me $85, a 20% increase on the 18% I had already paid.
Stay classy, Table 8.
Poor Review by an Event Planner
by EventPlanner2008 at Citysearch
The week of March 10, we brought our annual convention to Miami Beach. I planned a night out with my wife at Table 8. We arrived at 7:30pm and were seated promptly in the empty dining room which faces Ocean Drive.
For appitizers, we ordered the diced ahi tuna asparagus, marinated radishes, aioli and the warm boucheron balsamic roasted onion, avocado, herb salad. We ordered the salt encrusted porterhouse for two which, is the signature dish at table 8. We ordered Rose by the glass for the appitizers and the Syrah also by the glass for our main course.
The appitizers arrived. The boucheron on my plate was tepid and near cold. The only flavor was in the roasted onion which was served on the plate. My wife grimaced when she forked a piece of the radish on her ahi tuna appitizer into her mouth. She quickly took a gulp of water. I asked what was wrong and she offered me a sample. I immediately discharged the piece from my mouth into a napkin. This was the most bitter thing I have ever tasted. We consulted our server who checked with the kitchen. She reported back that they had mistakenly marinated the radish only in vinegar forgetting to add the rest of the marinade. No offer to replace the foul tasting dish or delete it from our tab.
Our porterhouse arrived and was presented by a different server who explained the cooking process and the ingredients in the salt crust. Our first impression was that the cut of beef was very small for $125 allowing us each 5 or 6 medium sized slices. We also found an inordinate ammount of gristle and tendon in our portions which was inedible and we had to discharge into our napkins.
We received our check which came to $276, which included an 18% gratuity. Today (3 days later), I checked my credit card statement and found that they had added another 20% to that charging me $332. In my 18 years as an event planner and dining at over 1000 restaurants, this experience rates as the worst.
Horrible food and service
by erikasaldarriaga at Citysearch
I went there with my boyfriend for the miami spice menu. The menu looked great but the service was terrible and the drinks were very overpriced. The waiter was impossible to find, the food took forever to arrive and when it did I had to look at the meals and say where are we going to eat after this? The portions were extremely small and not tastey at all. I will never go to this restaurant again and have told all my friends of this terrible experience. The need to invest on some waiters and waitresses with personality instead of just looks. The service was awful.
- Pros: nice atmosphere
- Cons: everything else
Worst Dining Experience in Ages!
by sjsilverman at Citysearch
1 star is 5 too many for this place. We had a party of 10 for my birthday and sat at one of the outdoor tables. Menu was nice, I will say, but the service was the worst I've seen anywhere in a long while. We had to ask for our waiter no less than 5 times while we sat there with menus, no cocktails and no water. Finally they came and took our drink orders, but it took 20 more minutes for everyone to get their drinks. After the cocktails arrived, we had to ask for our waiter 3 more times before he came over and took our dinner order. When the food finally came, everybody's food arrived at different times. Mine, as well as others meals were not cooked to the proper temperature (warm at best), and the food was forgettable. Since you can't let hot food sit around, some people were finished with their entrees before other's had even arrived. Nobody came to check on us while we were eating, and again, glasses went empty for long periods. When we complained to the manager, he said he was sorry, but didn't offer anything: no discount, no free dessert, no round of drinks...just an insincere apology. I'm used to lousy service in Miami, but for the amount of money this place charges, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Clearly, I will not be returning to Table 8, nor will I be recommending it to my friends.....and clearly, the management really won't care that a South Beach local is so dissatisfied.
- Pros: none
- Cons: everything
This place is a joke - INEDIBLE
by sohocuba25 at Citysearch
I read some of the review on here and anyone who said this is exceptional food is very deluded... Let me break it down meal by meal, since 37 of us dined there this past weekend and were apalled. This is our experience as a dining club this past Saturday June 23rd, 2007.
Tuna appetizer.... its fresh tuna, with SALT all over it with some sort of oil and parsley. I don't know what kind of chef designed this but it was horribly salty and then the bite of the parslet was just a shock. This should be called salt rock tuna sashimi.
Baby Chicken - again overly salted and lack of any depth in this dish, it was like eating at a bbq place
Kobe "style" Beef - This dinner was again a shock, i eat my steak rare with a seared crust. The crust should be no more than 1/8 in thick. The cooked part of the steak almost made it medium. The steak itself lacked any kind of flavor or freshness to it.
Filet - Also inedible and over salted
The only thing i can really say is the fish is fresh, the service was ok for our table(s) size. They were slow but i cannot really judge based on our table size. What i can say was bringing out the food 20-30 minutes apart in this case was tacky and lacked any sort of class on their serving knowledge.
The bill also came incorrect with 2 extra appetizers and the alcohol not broken down on it, just a plain "liquor charge"
- Pros: nice look, good atmosphere
- Cons: food is a mean joke, service, price
If you like edible food, don't eat here!
by rick19667 at Citysearch
This is by far the worst meal out, I have ever eaten. The staff is nice, but they have the awful job of having to sell bland food as "amazing" treats. The appetizers are better tasting than the entrees. Skip the pork chop if you don't like tasteless slabs of meat on your plate. The food is so awful you will feel embarrassed for suggesting it to your friends!
- Pros: staff
- Cons: food
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
by tronsruenoelle at Citysearch
MUSIC IS OKAY. NOT OUTSTANDING OR GREAT. SERVICE HORRIBLE. I WAS ON A DATE AND THEY CHANGED MY TABLE TWICE. THE FOOD WAS COLD ONCE SERVED. JUST OVER ALL I HAD A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AT TABLE 8. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE...NOT EVEN AN ENEMY.
- Pros: NONE - YOUR BETTER OFF GOING SOMEWHERE ELSE
- Cons: SERVICE HORRIBLE, HOSTESS HORRIBLE, TABLES TO CLOSE TOGETHER
overpriced food wasn't great
by yunialtunde at Citysearch
Service-great, booths-comfortable, but food-mediocre. kobe steak was decent, but not worth the money. Tried my friend's baby chicken, but again I was disappointed. For the quality and flavor, you should be paying 30% less. Ordered the cobbler for dessert, and asked for it to be hot, but it was lukewarm, it came out with a top made of puff pastry. It would have been fine with me, except that the puff pastry was extra chewy instead of light and crisp. It tasted as if they put a stale round cut out of puff pastry on top of the cobbler and microwaved it. tiramisu was also the same. Better new restaurants out there, like evolution or prime 112. but if it's 2 a.m. and your craving steak after a night out, and you are staying at the hotel, I guess this place will do. If your hungry and drunk, I could see these food tasting good.
- Pros: booth
- Cons: food and price
Govind needs to really focus
by noelle29 at Citysearch
The owners of this place look like newbies at running a restaurant. There was a shortage of wait staff and bar staff. The place wasn't full but they really had no idea of what they were doing. It seems like all the waiters and bartenders all called in sick. 20 minutes to take our order. 15 more minutes to get our drink order, which they should have taken with our order before running away. The food came out and was decent, but I've had much better meals ant other places like emerils and prime 112. We spoke to one of the owners who seemed like a nice person but not an experienced restaurant manager. We were not offered a discount for our troubles. I love the outdoor space and that's the draw for eating there, but there are plenty of other places that have outdoor seating and have a clue.
Average food and pretentious staff!!!
by laci456 at Citysearch
Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted by the smell of delicious food and a pleasant ambience. Unfortunately things went down hill from there. The hosts were pretentious to put it nicely and I had the beek flatiron steak (it wasn't kobe) which was average (definitely not worth the price). With so many other restaurants to choose from in miami, I would not put table 8 on a must visit list. A new restaurant needs to carry itself beyond the initial buzz and attract repeat customers - a goal I doubt table 8 will accomplish.
- Pros: none
- Cons: i can eat better accrossing the street, at starbucks.
