Food is a win/miss but Overall Great Experience
by sunflower234 at Citysearch
I was really wary of going to Michy's after reading the reviews on this site. To top it off, we were entering the restaurant as a friend was leaving and he declared the place "overhyped". I had also heard the place was over-priced, and they don't seem to have a website with a menu so I didn't even know if they'd have something I'd like for the price. Well, I have got to say, despite my reservations, I really enjoyed my experience there. First, the ambience is very comfortable and I really think that even though the decor is a bit of a hodgepodge, it does come together very nicely. Secondly, I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, but I thought the waiter recommended a great "light" red wine from the by the glass menu. It went very well with the dinner. I did think the menu was a bit win or miss. We tried the seared foie gras and duck confit to start. The foie gras was simply amazing- it really is the best I've had in Miami. The duck confit was dry and I can get it much better and cheaper elsewhere. Same thing happened with our entrees. Short ribs were probably the worst I've had in Miami and expensive. They weren't bad, but they didn't fall off the bone and melt in my mouth or anything. But the steak frites were delightful. I am not a bread pudding person but I followed the advice of the citysearch folks and ordered that for dessert- that too was amazing. So my consensus is that I can see why people may not have a positive experience at Michy's if they order a dish that is substandard. But there are dishes on the menu that I think are noteworthy and if you find the right thing you may just be hooked!
- Pros: ambience, food, service

Off the beaten path

Located on Biscayne Blvd. this restaurant packs them in. The menu is refreshingly unique and offers half servings as well as full plates. Being a man who loves to eat I was a little disappointed on the small size of the full plate. I am scared to think what the half plate looked like! However I respect the fact that the food was so delicious I probably would have over eaten and felt bad later? The wine selection is top notch?.I had the braised short ribs which were nothing short of amazing. I recommend it for people who want to venture off and see that there is more to Miami than South Beach!
