Craft food in a wonderful setting

by gbarry

We ate there during our Christmas-New Years vacation to Miami Beach. My wife has celiac (gluten intolerance) and our server made sure her selections were gluten-free. We could hear him making the order in the open kitchen and were re-assured. Meal was wonderful and extremely flavorful. Great service, specials on wine and an incredible meal for us.

  • Pros: Service, food
  • Cons: Low lighting - not a big deal

Best In Miami

by Anthony71

Flew into Miami from New York and stayed at the Gansvoort (nice property, but they need to get their act together)- to have a fun vacation with my fiance and we love food. I had done my homework and so did she- we ate at all the best City Search, Zagat & friend rated restaurants and Talula took the best overall restaurant award for the 5 day trip. To keep it simple- The food was the best part- the service- excellent- my server has been at Talula for 5 years! he calls it home and the ambiance comfortable and "downtown NY ish"- right up our alley. A place I will highly recommend for the night that you don't need the "Sobe Scene". We found the Sobe Scene and the hype most of the restaurants down there are known for- most notably Prime 112- get real with this place- why we had to wait 30 minutes is just unclear still as tables were open- the worst overall. Sardinia-good- but was expected to get blown away form all the hype- also a bit out of the way, Casa Tua- good food, but I am a big guy and left hungary and $400.00 poorer. Nobu- great food- great scene-

  • Pros: The only place like it in South Beach- original and for foodies
  • Cons: can't think of any

Amazing Service! Ask for Kevin...

by mltt16

Talula was excellent! My boyfriend and I dined here after we requested a "quiet, American restaurant" from our hotel Concierge. The meal was delicious (we both had steak), the wine was excellent (a wonderful reccomendation from our server) and the dessert (chocolate & banana bread pudding) and after-dinner drinks were phenomenal. The most outstanding part of our evening was the service we received; Kevin was the best server either of us has ever encountered. We will be returning to Talula on our next trip to South Beach!

Over rated

This restaurant is a typical example of what is happening here in Miami with restaurants. Drinks and wines by the glass has become almost as expensive as the dinners themselves. A glass of wine is an accompaniment to any dinner not a main course. $14.00 a glass for local wine is a bit much. You are not opening up a bottle of Bordeaux Gran Cru. It is from California, get over it!!! Now for the food. Lets start with the appetizer, we had scallop over a pastry that was actually good and different. The menu itself was limited. We had lamb which was mediocre. Polenta with lavender would not be our choice as an accompaniment for lamb. By the way, no substitutions offered. The dessert was dry and very disappointing. No atmosphere whatsoever. The service I must say was good. I would not go there again nor recommended to any of my friends. I've had better food for the same price in other places in Miami. This one is crossed off my list.

Nice Dining

by wrharbour

One of the better resturants on the beach. I dont suggest sitting outside in the back. We had a bad mosquito experience and had to be moved inside. Overall the food was well prepaired and the service was friendly. They do ususally make you wait a bit for your table. I went twice with reservations and once with out and had to wait all three times. But it was worth it in the end ...I had some fois grois which was mouth watering and the desserts were unique.

Unhappy Talula dining experience

by hellramsey

We went to Talula Friday. We had an 8:30 PM dinner reservation. The restaurant does not have any parking, but does offer valet parking for $10.00. The restaurant is small and we were semi-pleased with the decor and the service, but the 70's music playing throughout the evening did little to enhance the atmosphere. The food was barely ok, but the selection very limited and there was only one dinner special from which to chose if you didn't care for any of the regular menu items; my entre of risotto was simply awful . The service was perfunctory and lacking the pacing one would expect from a restaurant of Talula's price range. Also, the waitress had told my husband that his dessert selection was not available, but then they brought out an unpalatable, melted version of the ginger sorbet he had ordered. He told the waitress it was not very good, but it remained on the bill.

There are so many fine restaurants in the Miami area. I would not recommend (nor return to) Talula. It is very overpriced for what it is.

American cuisine with a Latin twist, one of the few to be recommended in South Beach

by pmgd75

Not a trendy spot, but a very good and consistent cuisine.

Far from the tourist traps of Lincoln Road or Collins or Ocean drive, a sure bet to have a good meal for a reasonable price for what you get.

Romantic, relaxing dining for guests who want creative American cuisine away from the bustle.

by Contributor

In Short
The cozy 75-seat dining area is dominated by warm tones of brick red and mustard yellow. Low lighting is provided by wall sconces and flickering candles on the dark-wood tables. An exhibition kitchen and bar with flat-screen television add visual interest. A typical meal might include the grilled-shrimp tamale appetizer served with fava beans and roasted poblano chilies and continue with crispy skin yellowtail snapper served with sweet-potato and wild-mushroom risotto and arugula.

Had a great lunch here

by theduke37

This review is based on a small sample size, as I just had lunch here. However, my grouper with japanese noodles was absolutely fantastic, as well as the fume blanc (which I had not heard of) that was on the list. My server was excellent, very friendly and helpful without hovering. It's a nice ambience as well, as the inside is attractive, clean and stylish, and the patio outdoors is wonderful.

  • Pros: Ambience, Lunch well-prepared
