Good Food, Service average

The food here is very good. A perfect place for those evenings that you don't know quite what to eat. The salad Gastronomia is excellent on a consistent basis, the bread (if they remember to bring it to you) is delicious and the pizza is amazing. It is small, but charming and it is definitely a good idea to make reservations if you are expecting to have more than four people in your group. Even then, you may have to wait. I have to admit that the service is below average, but I have been to very few restaurants here in Miami that serve in this price range AND have good service. (average $30 per person without alcohol) As a non-native Miami-an, or Floridian, for that matter, I was often appalled at the service. But a year and half after living here, I've come to terms with the Miami restaurant (lack-of) serivce. No one says you're required to leave a tip......My family and I love it and recommend it to others.

- Cons: slow, spaced-out waiters, may have a long wait

My boyfriend actually worked as a server in Gastro for 6 months, and we are STILL waiting for his final paycheck four months later. We are actually looking in to taking them to court because they don't pay ANY of their employees the tips that people give to them (credit card tips are charged to the restaurant for the employees but are NEVER distributed). They actually went as far to give us a check drawn on a CLOSED ACCOUNT to try to get rid of us while they try to disappear. We are being evicted from our home, losing our car, and having our credit absolutely destroyed because of these horrible and selfish people. So, if the service is bad, this is why. Either way, if you don't go because of the bad service or a**hole manager who beats his wife in front of the employees, then just don't go because of their inhumane treatment of their workers.

I couldn't even give this place a star. Worst place ever. The manager Rob was an absolute....***hole. He is very loud and you cannot enjoy your meal. His employees look depressed as if they don't get paid or something. The service was great and so was the food, but not worth to return to. I will not return AGAIN!

I love the pizza at La Gastronomia. Their selection of pastas is also pretty large. Everything was cooked to perfection and the taste was out of this world! Wish I could have eaten more!

My wife and I had dinner there one Friday night. I had the the spinach ravioli, she had the lasagna. Both were very good. The pasta was light, the sauce did not taste heavily cooked, but was flavorful none the less. The bad part of the evening was the service - it was the worst I have ever experienced! We waited over an hour for our food to come, not once did anyone fill our water or wine glasses, we had to ask for bread, cheese, everything, several times. It was so bad, that it made the meal miserable. The small place, that seems quaint and intimate, is actually set up so that people, servers etc, are constantly bumping against you and climbing over you. As we were finishing, a gentleman who identified himself as the "customer service manager" asked us how we enjoyed the meal - we told him how bad the service was. He promised that it would improve, I certainly hope so, otherwise I can't possibly recommend this place.

My family and friends wanted Italian and we found the place in the heart of the Gables - La Gastronmia! From the appetizers to the desert ? I give it 5 stars! My wife loved the lobster ravioli and I went for the recommendation - the Lasagna, I know why it was recommended. It was an outstanding dining experience and the owners made us feel like family :)! BTW - I recommend the chocolate souffle!

Food is not so bad, but over-priced. The service is extremely bad. Servers are very rude, not attentive and with an attitude. No knowledge of what customer service is. The servers serving and reaching over us, over our heads, not one EXCUSE ME OR I'M SORRY. We asked for garlic for the pizza and pasta (you might think this is a given in an Italian Rest) Not here, they brought us the actual GARLIC CLOVES, when we asked for garlic powder or crushed garlic -their answer was "We don't have that here". Horrible service, you get better service at Chucky Cheese. The servers serving and reaching over us, over our heads, not one EXCUSE ME OR I'M SORRY. We had a party of 10 celebrating a birthday, and we agree, STAY AWAY, DON'T MAKE IT YOUR WORST NIGHT OUT.

This place will definately give you gas and much worse, i felt sick for two days after eating there. The food didn't even taste good. I wont be back. Stay away unless you want to be sick. On a positive note the bread they give you is pretty good.

i always go there for dinner and i only have one question, WHERE IS THE PERUVIAN GUY USED TO WORK AS SERVER,THAT SERVICE WAS REALLY AWESOME,GO AND HUNT HIM OUT SHOULD BE IN A VERY NICE PLACE NOW.HIS NAME WAS EMANUEL FROM PERU.

I did not like this restaurant at all. Pasta carbonara gave me gas. Now I know hence the name of the restaurant. GAStronomia
