Great Food
by htownhurricane
We live in a time where we judge resturants by everything except the most important contributer, the food. This place may not look like a 5 Star resturant but the food speaks for its self. The food is as Home made as you can get. We spent the whole summer at Miami and we were tired of junk food. For a great home cooked meal I recommend this resturant. Right in the heart of South Beach, this is an awsome place to get your grub on. I also recommend Moms New York Pizza just a block away.
- Pros: The food, near beach, near night spots
- Cons: Service is Average at best

Yuk! and the neighborhood is scary
- Pros: The dishes were dirty
- Cons: the dishes could have been dirtier

The
the whole menu is not to die for, but some
dishes are totally worth the indifferent service expeience. Don't come here to get charmed come
here for the pernil or ropa vieja with some rice and black beans
Good food, bad and I mean bad service.

Sure it may be some good cuban food, but the service given at the place is the worst! I mean there was this one waitress who would scream everytime she went from the dinning area where the tables are to the counter. God knows why she's screaming as if she were outdoors. She was rude, did not smile one bit, and gave attitude from time to time. If i decide to go back and eat there again, I'm going to try to get her name because the day I went with my friends she did not have a name tag. Honestly, if I ran this restaurant I would have fired her a long time ago.
- Pros: Good food
- Cons: Bad service and ambience
My opinion about Puerto Sagua
by Ana1820
i love this Cuban restaurant there coffee is the best also i like there food but i guess other people that have not been to Miami that often and also that they don't live here the love to talk trash about places they only have gone like 1 time so here goes my opinion never judge a place by its looks and by the way if you go to a Cuban place why would you want to order salad thats not there specialty if you want salad go to pollo tropical or outback steakhouse.
- Pros: absolutely love the place i live so close to it( LoL)
- Cons: no cons

by doubled76
we came because of the great review but the food is the worst cuban food. both chicken and beef Empanada were as dry as beef jerkies. the salad were plain and stale. how can anyone recommand this nasty place. please spend your money somewhere else!!!!!!
Modest, dependable Cuban diner serves comfort food to movers and shakers.

In Short
The fluorescent-lit interior might be shabby, but Puerto Sagua is a favorite of local politicos, who congregate at the counter in the mornings to debate local, foreign and national policy over hearty Cuban breakfasts. The food isn't fancy, but diners return for paella-style chicken and rice, ham croquettes and other Cuban comfort dishes. It's also frequented by nocturnal creatures needing a quick shot of energy-boosting Cuban coffee before heading back out into the break of dawn.
Good.

My husband and I really enjoyed Puerto Sagua. It is worn and shabby, but that's what we were looking for after 5 hours of driving and just having checked into the hotel. The door is hard to open, so it was somewhat difficult to get my husband's wheelchair in, but no one seemed to notice. I speak fluent Spanish with a very good accent, but I'm obviously American (blonde hair, green eyes). He refused to speak Spanish with me (even though his English was somewhat limited) and was rude after that. The food we had (ham croquettes, some kind of breaded chicken w/ yellow rice) was really good, but their soup is awful. They call it authentic Cuban soup of the day, but it's just chicken noodle. We'd go back, but expect a rude, unresponsive waitstaff.
- Pros: Great Food, Centrally Located
- Cons: P

I dont know what that guy is talking about. The food here was actually really good. I had the shredded beef dish with fried plantains and ate the entire thing- it was sooo good! I was stuffed. They give a lot of food. The service could definitely be better, my iced tea sat empty throughout the majority of my meal with now waitress in sight after we were served. But isnt all service in SoBe is very slow and laid back? (Especially since the charge 18% gratuity no matter what?) But the food was definitely worth trying.
- Pros: food
- Cons: service, atmosphere
Only a non-Cuban would like the place
by pgou
Are you kidding me?, this place has waiters with a bad attitude, food that never improved in 10 plus visits (I finally gave up), South Beach prices and no parking!
The white rice was gummy, more alike something for sushi than what Cuban food is like, the black beans remind you "Mom's home cooking", as in MOM is HOME cooking, not at Puerto Sagua. The Ropa Vieja was over tomatoey, the fried plantains nowhere near ripe, though they were requested that way, even the Cuban coffee was made without sugar!!!!! When I requested they bring me another one I was told "that's how we serve it"...maybe in Italian restaurants, but not on a Cuban place. It boggles the mind they are still in business. They would not last 1 month in The Gables, Little Havana, Kendall, Sweetwater, Westchester or The Grove
- Cons: Attitude, Food taste, Parking
