My father, my brother and I were in Miami for two nights, and I was tasked with the responsibility of picking a Cuban restaurant for dinner for one of the nights. Based on Citysearch reviews, I selected Las Culebrinas on Flagler Street. I was far from disappointed.

I won't pretend to be an expert on Cuban cuisine, but everything we ordered was excellent. My brother had a pork loin stuffed with green and sweet plaintains. My father had grouper and calamari in a tomato sauce. I had Cuban skirt steak with shrimp, potatoes and a salad. Sides included black beans and fried plaintains. All three entrees were incredible, and the sides were not far behind. For dessert, we had three types of flan (chocolate, caramel, and coconut). All three were delicious, with the coconut beating the others by a nose.

The service could best be described as efficient and sufficient (which I much prefer to being pestered every three seconds). Our waiter's English was only slightly better than my Spanish, which is to be expected in South Florida. He seemed a bit frustrated with the communication barrier, but no real problems.

I gave this restaurant a 9.5 out of 10. I would not think of returning to Miami without at least one visit to Las Culebrinas.

  • Pros: Food, value, portions
  • Cons: None

We ate at Las Culebrinas while visiting Miami. We chose this location based on a review in the Zagat guide. We were unfamiliar with Cuban food but wanted to try it. We were not disappointed! This is a great restaurant with excellent service.

Writing as a non-cubano, but always on the lookout for great cuisine when traveling and I recently went to Miami for 3 days back in Nov and the goal was to sample all Cuban cuisine night and day. We tried Versailles, Havana Harry's, and Villa Habana, but Las Culebrinas easily takes the top prize. I had the skirt steak with potatoes, shrimp and salad and it was just so tasty and cooked just right. My missus had the ever popular roasted chicken and plaintains and that was delicious as well.

To compare against the restaurants I mentioned before is slightly unfair. Las Culebrinas has got a slightly more formal setting compared to others and their menu is not as extensive as a Versaille's per se. And I've only been there once compared to a couple of times at the other places, but that first visit was very memorable and I will definitely be making the extra effort to drive to this gem again.

  • Pros: great food, great service
  • Cons: location is fairly far west of downtown miami; price slightly higher than other cuban fare

One of the best Cuban restaurants in Miami. Everything on the menu is cooked to perfection. I loved the deserts as well, with the exception of the chocolate flan.

  • Pros: Great food at a GREAT price!

In Short
A corner location in a strip mall on Flagler Street hasn't been enough to keep fans of upscale Cuban cuisine from finding this restaurant. The old-fashioned decor gives the place an air of formality. The classics are here, but chef-owner Carlos Rodriguez puts his own spin on them. Steak is stuffed with plantains. Salmon comes with a cilantro cream sauce. Seafood chowder comes with big chunks of catfish.

As a Cuban-American local who has eaten at several Cuban restaurants, I'd honestly say that Las Culebrinas is among my top two or three. Every dish contains magnanamous portions, and are consistently excellent. Very unique, innovative cooking as well...aesthetically-pleasing. Very classy and unique cooking. Environment is appropriate for casual dressing and above. Great of a place for the group as for the family. May be too noisy for a first date. A little on the higher-end, but at the same time super-reasonable for the amazing food (dishes range from about $12.00 to $25.00). A GREAT experience for visitors who want to experience Cuban food at its best. I recommed the Coconut Grove location for visitors.

The service is by no means bad, but the waiters may stray, since they all seem to be attending several tables. Some aren't extremely proficient in English; but hey, it makes it more authentic ;)

  • Pros: Incredible food, Innovate cooking, Unique dishes
  • Cons: High-paced, Noisy at times, Waiters stray somtime

I'm a Cuban from NJ, and whenever I get down to Miami (3 to 4 times a year) I make sure Las Culebrinas is in my list of places to go. This place is phenomenal, the Sangria, Mojitos and Tapas are out this world. Please don't forget La Crema Catalana (flamed custard) is amazing. The Friendly Staff will take care of You like family. The portions are huge so don't over order. Go early on weekends it tend to be crowded after 8:00 pm.

  • Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, Great Staff
  • Cons: , None, None

Ive been fortunate to go to this restaurant dozens of times, and its never dissapointed.

Tucked away on a corner of flagler and 49th street, this spanish/cuban joint is the perfect place to give out of towners a taste of great food with a splash of local color.

Menu ranges from standard cuban fare to exotic choices like Gator, frog legs and rabbit. Ox tail in black sauce (when available) is tough to beat. Pork chunks and stuffed pork steak are a cardiologists nightmare. The latter is stuffed with Plantain puree, and topped with a balsamic sauce. The mix of flavors will please all.

Portions are huge, so dont over order. Service is attentive without being obtrusive. Desserts are fresh, varied and well prepared.

Limited wine list, but some good spanish selections to accompany hearty fare.

  • Pros: great food, great value, friendly staff
  • Cons: location, waiting area, can get crowded...
