the best Indian food that's NOT made by my grandma!!
by CSMobileUser
this restaurant has some of the best Indian food I've ever had. We started out with the Gujarati kachori's and the onion bhajias. Let me add that they were made by an actual Gujarati so they WERE the actual thing! Then we went on to have the paneer mukhni, tikka masala, rogan josh, & the chicken vindaloo. They were not only spicy, but they were also flavorful and the right size. It seems as if restaurants give you such big portions that they have the doggie bag waiting by your order because they know that you're going to take it home!!! But anyway, the naans were warm and fluffy and the rice better than the average rice you get at other restaurants. It is a little expensive but you have to remember that a lot of work goes into a curry and the spices themselves aren't cheap. The only issue is parking- you have to search for it along the streets or in a parking garage which can become pricey. But in all, this restaurant is probably one of my favorites and I would definately come back again!!!
Best Indian food in Miami!
by CSMobileUser2
By far, the friendliest staff of any Indian restaurant in Miami - you will feel like family here. And the food is delicious, with many subtle but ingenious updates to traditional Indian fare - the addition of arugula to palak paneer, for instance, is truly inspired. A very respectable wine list, designer martinis and desserts such as their famous chocolate samosas are out of this world. Hip, elegant, modern atmosphere with down-tempo Indian electronic music and comfortable seating indoors and out makes this the perfect dining experience. Very highly recommended.
Awful. not the same as the old Anokha
by johnpeltier85
First of all, they completely changed their menu and style when they moved in mid 2008. All reviews prior to that should be discarded. Instead of the old, traditional menu they've tried create a fusion indian style something.... it's not working. My boyfriend and I have tried them 3 times (hey, we're desperate for indian) and we were sorely dissappointed each time. We have fond memories of the "old" Anokha but this new thing they're doing just isn't working.
Specifically, the naan is tired and dried. The shrimp biryani was bland, tasteless. Service ranges from indifferent to non-existent. They make you feel like you're annoying them if you ask for anything. On one visit they brought the bread well after we had finished our feel and got argumentative when we told them we didn't want it. Then they added an 18% tip!!!
RUDE, small portions, overpriced......

Very small portions. When the check arrived there was a charge for the rice, asked for explanation, was given such a bad attitude. My first and last visit.
Nicest Indian Restaurant I've ever seen
by jefftt
I live in the Grove so, I've been to the restaurant a few time in their old location. I have to say that the new place is the nicest Indian restaurant I've ever seen. Usually, their dark, dingy, and smell. NOT THIS PLACE!!! They have a full bar, with specialty drinks and a huge Indian beer selection. The food is great. I had the butter chicken and my roommate had the lambchops. Both were awesome. They have a bottomless glass of wine which is great and there's a cool lounge in the back to chill out in. It's a little pricey, but, it's well worth it. they also have a whole section of fusion dishes for those scared of the Indian food. Highly recommend this Grove treasure..
- Pros: Great Food, Nice atmosphere, close to home
- Cons: None worth noting
not very authentic indian, servers don't care, old fish...
by camoureux
I have eaten here twice now at the new location.... The first time with my boyfriend and it was actually really good, not very authentic but still it tasted good. Our server was nice and pretty knowledgeable. It was way over priced but we had a nice time. except when I wanted to order dessert. she brought me the menu, i ordered a chai and a dessert. she brings me my tea and then tells me they don't have the dessert i ordered. so i looked at the menu again and picked something else. then she comes back 5 minutes later and says they don't have that either. well.. i try one last time and of course with out fail. they don't have it. Why did she even bring me the menu the first time.?
well... the second time I went was with a couple friends, i had told them how good it was so they wanted to go. I was embarrassed. the food this time was just ok. the appetizers were good. the mains eh.. mediocere. one of them however was off! We had the tandoori fish. it was mahi mahi. and living in Miami I eat ALOT of mahi mahi. and this fish was OLD. it tasted REALLY FISHY and I could smell it when I put it my mouth. Horrible. so i brought this to the attention of our server and well he didn't really seem to care. I told him he should tell the chef, and he told me I should tell the chef! WHAT??? I proceeded to tell him that i don't work here you do and its your responsibility as a server to relay information like this to the kitchen and management, then he just smiled and walked away!. HA! wow. is all I can say. didnt' bother trying to order dessert. at this point we just wanted to go. $140 for 3 people. oh and they charged us the fish.
not sure if I will go back there or not. I like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt but the audacity of this place is out of line.
- Pros: its close to my apartment
- Cons: read the review

- Pros: valet parking
NOT FOR INDIANS!!!
by rajmehta
This is probably one of the worst Indian restaurants I have had food in in the US. they have named certain dishes which are the specialities of certain states eg Goan Vindaloo (from Goa), Lucknowy Biryani (from Lucknow), but trust me, there are no specialities.
I ordered for a Lucknow Biryani and what I got was chicken pulao which did not even taste good. So I told the waiter that this is not Biryani and guess what? the waiter has the nerve to first tell me that this is how they prepare their biryanis and then he went on to ask me if I was from India, because chicken pulao and biryani are one and the same thing!!! Can you believe it???
He finally stopped talking when I told him that I was actually from Lucknow in India and knew everything about making Biryanis!!
After all the discussion I had I thought that at least they would not charge me for the biryani, since I had only had a spoon from it. Instead they charged me for it and when I said I did not want to take the dish home, he has the audacity to say that I would defintely be able to find some use for it
Bottom line-this is not a restaurant for people who are looking for authentic indian food. In fact I would not recommend this restaurabt to anyone. It is expensive, the service is poor and of course mainly because the food is not Indian!!!!
Best Indian Food west of India
by achandler
Although the place is small, and the atmosphere is dark, the food is just simply incredible. I have heard that they are in the process of moving to a much larger, extremely well designed space not to far away (still in the Grove), and I am sure that the decor will soon complement the cuisine. I look forward to seeing them come into their own, moving into a space that they deserve, and rocking the world with their delicious Indian delights. In the meantime, I will endure the dark atmosphere again and again just for the delicious treats. If you?re looking for great service, go to a resort. If your looking for great food, go to Anokha!!!
- Pros: Good Food, Good people, Good owners.
- Cons: Dark atmosphere, but its all about to change
Worst Indian Food and Service Ever. Avoid at all costs!
by bobby19
I know there aren't many Indian restaurants in Miami...but this is one to avoid. The service here is TERRIBLE. We waited 1.25 hours before even getting our appetizer. The food is eh, not so great. I've had much better food at places that are less expensive. And the prices are too much for what they give you (ie rice = $5....yeah your dish doesn't come with rice - are you supposed to eat it with your hands?). Oh, and in case you are irritated about the service, food, or whatever you'll still end up paying the 18% gratuity for the awful experience. Avoid!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Everything: food, service, price, and 18% mandatory gratuity
