A cool off-the-strip spot popular with New Yorkers.

The Scene
Built in 1939, this landmark hotel reopened at the turn of the millennium after major renovations by the same transplanted New Yorker responsible for the Delano's Blue Door restaurant. Jonathan Morr was intent on being a bit irreverent in design while making this property a "cool place to be." It sits on a side street in an area that seems to be an almost permanent construction zone, but the inconveniences disappear amid the upscale beach-house decor by New York interior designer India Mahdavi.
The Details
Modern white furnishings are accented with striking red decor and signature curvy couches; amenities include mini-refrigerators, data ports and personal safes. Penthouse suites offer king-size beds and wide terraces overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Singular attractions include rooftop terrace waterbeds and a glow-in-the-dark water tower. Try the sushi at the hotel's Bond St. Lounge, which claims to be the best on South Beach.
big time construction next door
by kendall44
We checked this place out upon arriving in So. Beach late Oct. '03. It was our 1st choice upon reading raves in hip guidebooks. But changed our minds w/the cacaphony of a construction project from hell going on right next door. If pile-driving at 8am is your cup of tea --this place is for you.
Its also a bit far north on Ocean Blvd., in its rattier area.
Great hotel

This was just what i wanted from a hotel. Stayed there new years eve. Cleanest room i have ever had in south beach. Plenty of seating for friend to hang out. They also had a refrigerator and a pantry downstairs to get anything you need for free. I will always stay here. Really cool place also.
- Pros: really cool, amenities, clean
Huge Disappointment
by lizgrenier
We arrived at the hotel via NYC and were extremely surprised to find out that the 30 story building under construction less than 20ft away had been going on for the past 2 years! We thought we left that back in New York The furniture was run down, the 3 rooms that we were shown all faced the construction. The "penthouse" was accessible via a stairwell. The hotel is 2 blocks too far from the action, right near a strip joint and a row of shops that look like 14th Street here in NY. I would not stay in this hotel unless I were a traveling student needing a place to crash.
