Is this Guy really the OWNER? – Man what a TERRIBLE RESTAURANT. REAL ITALIAN
I dont think so...The owner claims he is authentic and real NY italian, funny. My wife had a simple request to leave out one ingredient ( she is pregnant now), the waiter told use it was not possible to remove it. Then after a few minutes some guy claiming to be the owner comes over and begins to berate my wife and I. Our table of 12 walked out leaving the appetizers and 3 bottles open wine on the table. Funny how this is an italian restaurant and the so called owner splahes his face all over the restaurants website, what does he think he is some South Beach model. DONT WASTE YOU TIME OR MONEY there is much better italian in miami, i mean, The Olive Garden would have been a better dining experience. The owner is a real loser, maybe the heath department should visit this place for a surprise check up, i hear there are RATS in the kitchen......

Have to come for lunch – Most people in Miami know that hands down Macaluso's is the best italian food anywhere, but what they don't know is that they serve lunch too! I've been going to the restaurant for years now, and it's without a doubt my favorite place to go. My new obsession now is their market right next door where they serve lunch. You can get the famous meatballs and salads, but then you can also get pizzas and heros. The pizzas are to die for. They make their own homemade dough and then top it with their famous marinara or leave it white. You can also get everything to go. They sell their homemade marinara, salad dressing, cheese, bread crumbs, olive oils, pasta and alot more. Basically everything they cook with in the restaurant they sell in the market so then you can go home and cook. How cool is that!
Average food, slow service, obnoxious owner – Waited an hour for our food to arrive and then three of the four dishes were cold --- the ravioli was actually cold in the center! The veal was at room temperature.
We waited another 10 minutes, the simple spaghetti and meatballs (they were OK --- but not spectacular) --- and not worth the $25!
There is more myth and showmanship in their food -- the meatballs and the tomato sauce was not this incredible thing they talk about -- actually they were disappointing. The food was way over-salted.
The prices are very steep for what this is. The portions are HUGE -- so think quantity not quality.
Finally, the owner at this place has an ego that is well beyond who he is ... we asked to speak with him and he declined. Incredible!
Perhaps in years gone by this restaurant was great ... but not any more. There are alot better places to eat Italian on the beach.
A total ripoff !!! – As all things in life it's all about cost benefit. The food is $15 a plate red-checkered table cloth trattoria style, but on the "South Beach" rip-off agenda.
Plate of pasta and 1 glass of wine = $60 dollars!!! - with a small tip (service was "authentic south beach" as well. i.e unprofessional and just plain poor).
Did I say $60 dollars for a plate of AMERICAN ITALIAN spaghetti????

By the way - look out also for the pretentious disertation about the chefs "thousand year old family recipees" brought over from ancient Staten island. And then check out the "gourmet" basket of Pasta they bring out to show the exclusive quality produce they use.
HELLO??? Is that a box of $2.50 Barilla linguini behind the other packaged pastas ??? Which I’m paying $30 for??
Bottom line "YOU CAN FOOL SOME OF THE PEOPLE SOME OF TIME, BUT NOT ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME".

DEFINITELY COMING BACK FOR MORE!!!!! – We found Macaluso's last night after overhearing someone talking about "the best Italian food they have ever had". We couldn't help but ask where the restaurant they were talking about is. Growing up in my own fathers kitchen eating fresh, homemade Italian food...I am one of the pickiest Italian restaurant critics. I usually cringe when people suggest going out for Italian because I know the food can never measure up to what my own father can concoct. However, my fiance' was hungry and craving Italian so I agreed. DAD, IF YOU READ THIS...I'M SORRY TO SAY...YOU HAVE SOME COMPETITION!!!! This is the best Italian food I have ever tasted. The food is authentic, fresh, cooked to perfection. We ate Michael's famous meatballs...it was instantly obvious why the famous come for the famous meatballs (celebrity photos snapped in Macaluso's kitchen with the chef/owner Michael are scattered about the restaurant). For our entrees, I ordered the Linguini white Clam sauce...my favorite Italian dish....what a relief to finally eat a hot, fresh, linguine white clam dish made with fresh clams and the perfect amount of garlic and olive oil! My fiance' ordered the Veal Parm with fusili. Now, I'm not usually a huge fan of veal and I couldn't resist tasting and then sharing this awesome dish. PERFECT!!! This guy definitely knows what he is doing! Our server explained to us that the recipes used have been in the owners family for more than 75 years....very cool! I grew up eating my fathers food and know firsthand the feeling I feel after eating a meal infused with passion and love. We left perfectly full and happy (with our canoli's to go) xoxoxo Melis
wow this place rocks.. me and my coworker went to eat there last week and thanks god.. i think i just found my new dates spot. the food is AMAZING. my friend matias had over 5 meatballs topped with juicy mouthwatering marinara sauce, which apparently they also sell in the market next door during the day time. wow... not a surprise jennifer lopez picture on the wall looks so happy, so as john bon jovi and bunch of other celebrities..
i finished up with vanilla cake cause i personally think desert should be a main course (few more pounds is just more of a nice person isn't it? :)) and OMG!!! not even it was the best cake i've had they decorated the plate with 3 cannolies, creamy and crunchy to perfection, i almost ate my fingers..
i'm definitely coming back for such a great experience. on top of that, choice of the music (the way you look tonight, new york and all those old hits you love :)), soft lite and candles gonna make my best date next week, looking forward :)
come for lunch – i go for lunch. a meatball sub, pelligrino, locatelli, they bake their own bread there everymorning. the best garlic bread you will ever have. nobody can make, homemade desserts that will leave your mouth watering
Where everybody knows your name – usually i just eat a cheese pizza here for lunch
but for a special treat I'll wait for the restaurant to open and order Grandma Lena's Chopped Meat and Peas
If it's a hot day on the beach maybe grilled Tuna over spinach
this is one of those places that if you know about it you come back week after week. there is always something new to try and if all else fails just have a meatball and salad
Nothing special – I went after hearing people rave about this place and was not impressed. The whole experience felt a little gimmicky to me. I don't see any point to not having a written menu, the list of "warnings" about the place (no changes, doesn't accomodate allergies, don't you dare complain about anything!) is amusing but a little ridiculous. The food itself was good but nothing to write home about, pasta a little less than al dente, tiramisu watery and clams were not in shells as waiter said they would be. I felt that the prices were too steep considering the type of food served. It was fun watching the owner/chef work in his kitchen from the table, but pretty obvious that he has a huge ego and refuses to see his culinary genius questionned in any way. To me this was a huge turn off: wouldn't a good chef want to know if anything was less than perfect?
