Aspiring hairstylists and bargain hunters alike seek out this South Beach academy. True to its Sassoon roots, scissor-wielding pupils brush up on cutting, coloring and creative courses under the watch of experienced educators. When they're ready for primetime, that's when the thrifty take a seat--wooed by the allure of receiving professionally supervised salon treatments from the academy students for a mere $18. The model program runs from Sunday through Thursday with sessions at 11am and 3pm.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- It's hard to beat an $18 do, but participants must be patient given the instructional nature of the deal. Salon sessions may last as long as three hours.
- Look Good:
- Don't just show up unannounced. Phone in ahead of time to schedule an appointment for the $18 session.
- The Extras:
- Weeklong courses include ABC Cutting and ABC Coloring. The Collection is a three-day session that concludes with a photo shoot where the model is cut and colored by the student.

May I just say, save yourself hundreds of dollars and go to another more professional place!! The front desk seems nice and sweet on the phone and then they are making fun of you right there while you wait, they are making grimaces and discussing what is bad in your look. I mean, come on! Millions of great salons out there cheaper and better! Boooo!!!
Do Not Go To Pascal
by robin l at Citysearch
i have been going to sassoon salons in boston, ny and miami for well over a decade now with fantastic results. i just went in for a cut on saturday with a man named pascal. he has never cut my hair before. i showed pascal a photo of the cut i wanted, done by other sassoon stylists. well, pascal totally disregarded what i wanted. i started off with shoulder length hair and ended up with a 1980's highly layered boys haircut. the cut looks freakish and outdated and now, unfortunately, so do i. when i complained to pascal, he LIED right to my face and said he did not see a photo. when i re-showed him the photo, he said that the cut was BORING. really? a cut that keith and martin always did for me was boring??? well, had pascal told me what he thought of his co-workers cuts, i would have walked out. pascal used my hair as a science experiment and it shows. the cut is tacky and outdated and it is going to be a nightmare to grow out...well over a year. how insulting to have to pay $120 for a REALLY BAD HAIRCUT THAT YOU DID NOT ASK FOR OR WERE EXPECTING AND TO BE LIED TO AS WELL. people, heed my advice and do not go to pascal.

$75 for a men's haircut is not affordable. This should be removed from the "best affordable haircuts" list asap.
I FOUND MY SOUL MATE HAIRDESIGNER !!!!!!
by Zukijen at Citysearch
My name is Jennifer. I have been to different hair salons/stylists which ranges from high end to super cuts in search of the dream hair designer that can capture the image I describe in my head of the dream cut and most of them have disillusioned me. Until Now. His name is Joseph Santiago from Vidal Sasson. I did some research and knew sort of what I wanted but still you need a designer that is honest and can tell you if it will really look good with the shape of your face. He was extremely professional. I loved that he listened to me, gave me his feedback and most importantly explained to me what he was going to do and how he was going to proceed in accomplishing this. It made me feel as if we were in sync with the idea. I felt at ease and confidant with his skill and expertise. Another point I would like to make is that he was very nice and humble, made me feel comfortable with some small talk but he was very focused and concentrated on cutting my hair. I walked in feeling very outdated and old ( I am 31 years old) and walked out feeling confidant, modern, sophisticated, classy and chic. Almost as if he looked into my head to see the vision I had of my haircut. What amazing precision in his hands. When he was done, I was in Awe. My best friend couldn't recognize me and loved my hair cut so much she made an appointment right away with him. I would also like to make reference to the staff: the receptionist and Ramsey who washed my hair. They were very professional, friendly and made me feel welcomed. In particular, the receptionist was very kind and though it had been a very long time since I had been there (10 years ago) she made me feel like if I was one of their regular clients. It is worth every penny and driving 20 miles (I live out west) to have him cut my hair.
Thank you to Joseph Santiago for bringing me up to date and helping me start 2009 with a fresh, great new look!!!!! Jenny
- Pros: Precision Hair Styling Skills and professional staff
- Cons: NONE
New Look

Found out about the student haircuts. What a great deal. You make a reservation when they're giving a class, so a student gives you the cut. A top-level instructor watches & guides the student. So you get a $100+ hatircut for less than $25. My hair looks great. Ting gace me a totally new look that still looks great. Everybody was really nice and did their best to make customers happy. I highly recommend you try them out. Some are better than others, but they're all pros.
- Pros: Great deal, professional, friendly
- Cons: parking can be a pain, but it's South Beach
