WOW!!!. I went to Avalon for dinner and was blown away by the service, my meal (a tasty dish of shrimp over deliciously seasoned grits) was absolutely fantastic and the pitcher of sangria was just not enough. I like that it's located away from some of the noise of the more touristy places on Ocean Drive so you can enjoy your company and great conversation but still close enough to people watch.

Citysearch Editorial Review. With a playful nod to the late-80s flick of a similar name, this seafood-centric hot spot at the Avalon Hotel does what many an Ocean Drive restaurant hasn't been able to do--make food that is, for the most part, worth the price. The menu does a little culinary globetrotting, from Japanese-style tuna tartare doused in a sesame-ponzu vinaigrette to a "Floribbean" sauteed yellowtail snapper with grilled asparagus, toasted macadamias and tropical fruit salsa. Service is swift and friendly and the entertainment is even better--every night you can enjoy the sounds of a live Latin-Caribbean duet on the front porch. (Just remember: If you're seated inside, you can't hear the music much as the crowd can get pretty loud.)

Enjoyable meal with a few glitches. In general the food was excellent. There were a couple of problems. The waiter got the drink order wrong, hearing 3 traditional mojitos when we ordered 2 mango and 1 regular. Perhaps you could blame that on the street noise of a Friday night. The mussels in a tomato sauce with fennel were excellent! The mozzarella with tomatoes was OK, but the tomatoes had an icyness to them and when it was pointed out to the waiter he did....nothing. The entrees were much better. The special salmon with porcini mushrooms was perfectly done. The Mahi Mahi was beautiful. The Risotto with seafood was OK (smallish portion and the mussels in it were cold. The dessert menu was not particularly inspired, but that was fine since we were full. Location was superb for people watching, in particular a dog that kept walking by with a bucket in its mouth to collect change. Heaters were set up to keep us comfortable in the December coolness. Why anyone would want to sit inside is beyone me.

Eat here!! while in South Beach!!. My husband and I were delighted with this restaurant..

Fresh fish, great service,, During our stay in South Beach, we were disappointed with several of the establishments we dined at. Avalon was fantastic.. The fish tasted as if they just came fresh out of the ocean. I had a red snapper that was deliciously prepared..

Terrific fish and service. My wife and I were here last night and we were blown away. The service was terrific - Ricardo was very helpful with out special requests. My wife has a gluten intolerance and he checked with the chef on a number of items. He suggested a terrific white wine at a reasonable cost. The manager was also very friendly and asked how everything was going. The food was delicious. We had the scallops and chipotle shrimp to start and the redfish and mahi for dinner. All were done to perfection. Even the band was great! Highly recommended.

Love it!. Whenever I am in South Beach I eat here. Last November, my husband and I were with friends and leaving for a cruise the next morning. We had no time for much partying as we wanted to rest up for the next day but I made sure to make outdoor seating reservations for all of us at AFCA and we had a fabulous time. This was everyone else's first time in South Beach and they were impressed. The food, the wine... Bravo! Again and Again. I'll be back in February and my trip would not be complete without a visit to my favorite eatery. Great service, great food, very romantic. Loves it!

Good seafood at Avalon. No problems here with quality or service. In fact everything has been hunky dory with appetizers as well as main courses in the seafood category. Never tried anything other than seafood here. Excellent atmosphere

Good Place -- service just 'okay. Overall, I recommend this place. The food was excellent (though if it's the best in Miami as it claims, I might be a bit worried). Fun and upbeat atmosphere -- the service was a little shoddy and what's even more annoying is that the 18% tip is automatically added into the bill, so you cannot even tip based on your satisfaction with the staff. Great wine list and the menu pairs each dish with a wine, which is helpful.

Can't miss here..... We just loved this place. The food was delicious, the service was fun and attentive, the music was a perfect touch. I would highly recommend the outdoor dining - you get to see all the action on sidewalk. The prices were reasonable, and the selection of wines were great.
