Awful place - cheating and rude waiters!.
I usually don't write reviews but this time I felt it was necessary to warn people how badly these people in the restaurant are cheating the clients.
I went to dine there in June with my wife. In the front they were showing a $14.99-paella special and since the atmosphere looked nice and we weren't looking for anything fancy we got in. First, we had to wait for twenty minutes for the waiter. He was rude and seemed to be in a hurry. We asked about the paella special and he said that it was tiny. He even showed us with his hands the size of the paella: like four times smaller than a regular dish? It looked strange to us. He even claimed it was to be served more as an appetizer. He offered us instead a $100 paella with wine that we didn't take. Since we weren't very hungry we ordered one anyhow together with another dish. He insisted it was going to be very small but we didn't care so he left upset. When the food arrived (after an even longer wait, the waiter was clearly upset with us -for ordering the paella special?-), the dish had the regular size!! The waiter simply tried to deceive us so to order something more expensive!! Unbelievable! He also noticed that so he tried to avoid our table from then on.
The story of the drinks in that restaurants -after so many bad reviews... it's a pitty we didn't see them before going there- is well-known. They don't show the prices on the menu and offer a 2x1 promotion. Most of the people don't even care about it since they're getting a second drink for free. They expect to pay a bit more than in a regular bar. But $25 is disturbing! These were the most expensive drinks I have ever paid in my life. And on top of that they're not tasty at all. They're not worth even half of that price...
Don't ever go there! That's my best advice.
Run don't walk. What a rip off!! I can't believe it happen to me and I live in the area!! I asked for the prices prior to being seated and I was still taken for $223 for a plate of paella and two frozen drinks. It took me getting down right getto to get it lowered to $200 which was still way over priced. They totally lie to you about the price it was originaly $55 for a plate. The food had no flavor and the drinks were down right bad. DO NOT GO UNLESS YOU HAVE MONEY TO BURN.
Wow...what a RIP OFF!.
First time in Miami was this last week. I arrived on March 26, 2009 and headed to Ocean Drive. Walking down the sidewalk of Ocean Drive is one haggler after another. All trying to get you to come into their restaraunt. My friend and I finally stopped to eat at the Sea Cafe and have lunch because as we walked by the hostess said, "You come here I give you 50% off food." I ordered the spinach salad with shrimp and avacado and my friend ordered the cuban sandwhich. I ordered the Caparihina and he ordered a Mango Mojito. Our bill came to $85.00. We did get 50% off our meal. That was true. My salad was literally only worth the $9.50 that I paid for it. It was just spinach leaves, 1/2 an avacado and 3 shrimp. Reg price was almost $20.00. Our drinks however did not have prices...that folks is where they RIP U OFF! $25.00 per drink. Total $50.00 for 2 drinks.
The service was good. But I am sure the Sea Cafe is laughing all the way to the bank charging $25.00 per drink, plus and added 17% gratuity on to ALL their bills. If you want to eat at Sea Cafe, I suggest only going if they offer 50% off their meals bc they are only worth half price, DO NOT order booze, just drink water, and enjoy the people watching. Otherwise, seriously stay away. The owner probably has a nice phat Ferrari thanks to ripping people off with $25.00 drinks.
Do not eat here.. I would not suggest this place to anyone. We stopped at this restaurant to have a late dinner. We were offered a 25% discount on all food orders. The waiter was nice. We only waited 10 mins for the waiter to acknowledge us and take our order. My sisters ordered mixed drinks ($18) that were water-downed. The waiter replaced the drinks after my sisters complained. This time the drinks were the wrong flavor. It took about 25 mins for us to get our food. My sisters and I ordered the fettucine alfredo with chicken and it tasted like the chicken had been cooked with shrimp. One of my sisters' ordered a salad that never came. My sister asked the waiter several times about the salad but it never came. He was too busy entertaining other patrons, posing for photos and dragging people in from the sidewalk to come in and dine at the establishment. From the time the waiter took our orders til the time we requested the check, he checked in (not including the times we waved him over to hear our complaints) on us only twice. There were a total of three waiters and there were five tables of 3-4 people sitting at each table present during that time. I ate 1/4 of my food and requested the check. When we got the check we noticed that the discount was on the bill, however, after we did the math it was only 17%. What happened to the 25% discount? "Sorry, but that's the way our computer calculated the percentage." Luck for us the 17% was put back into the bill as a tip. There was a statement at the bottom of the receipt that said the tip could be adjusted. So we adjusted the tip according to the service. The waiter was not happy about this, he wanted the full 17% but I told him we were not satisfied with the food, drinks or service therefore the tip had to be adjusted to reflect that. The manager came out and after we explained our experience to him, he understood why the tip was adjusted. We gathered our belongs and left.
horrible food...horrible service...inept manager...all makes for a horrendous dining experience.
i recommend eating tree bark over the food at this restaurant...and the management was so bad they could have run Enron. keep walking when you pass this restaurant...actually, run!
Sea Cafe is HORRIBLE and a SCAM!.
Sea Cafe is a SCAM! Sea Cafe is a restaurant that completely screws their clientele. Once we sat down, the waitress had a bad attitude and did not treat us well at all. Even though her service was horrible, in Miami the tip is automatically added to the bill so you are FORCED to pay a high tip to a subpar waitress. Once we ordered, the ONLY other time we saw the waitress was when she brought out the food and check. She did not come by to even refill our water glasses. The seating was cramped even with only a few other patrons. When using the bathroom, the inside of the restaurant looked atrocious and not sanitary whatsoever. The food was mediocre at best; the pasta was dry and hard and the seafood tasted off.
Although the drinks were large, they were not made well and tasted horrible and expect to be billed at least $30 per drink. Their "2 for 1 Drink Special" is for drinks that are $30 each and it is PER person, so if the second drink is not for you, it will be an additional $30! You have to know that the specials have too many loopholes and stipulations to be the "good deal" they say it is. Once we got the check, the total was GROSSLY overbilled due to the fact the waitress lied about menu pricing and their conniving advertising!! When we tried to speak to the waitress and the manager, they would not listen and were incredibly uncompromising and RUDE.
Even for South Beach Miami the pricing was abominable! With food being mediocre with TERRIBLE service AND the CHEATING methods, they lure unsuspecting tourists. Sea Cafe is a HORRIBLE experience. I would NEVER go back and NEVER recommend this restaurant to anybody.
Avoid at all Costs. Food is sub-par at best. They charged me $25 for a mixed drink. I've had a better Cuban Sandwich at a chain restaurant known for wings. Great view of Miami beach, but if you're looking for a good dining experience go somewhere else off the beaten path. This place is nothing more than a tourist trap.
Credit Card users Beware!. This is your typical high-priced cafe, but what my husband and I discovered was that this restaurant also keeps copies of people's credit card numbers after they pay. We were fortunate to find out because they accidentally left an imprint of our credit card on the back of our receipt. We've reported them to the FTC, but are not sure if anything will be done. We've had our credit card numbers stolen this way by someone making a copy of our credit card after taking a carbon copy of it so be careful!!
