If you want a break from the SoBe's velvet ropes and pretentious club scene, head south--way south--to Homestead's neighborhood bar. Beer is the brew of choice early in the day, though generous drink specials throughout the week may turn a bottleneck drinker into a cocktail sipper. There's always plenty of seating, and the music is loud but never throbbing to the point where you can't carry on a conversation with friends you know or barflies you would like to know. A stage also gets put to good use on weekend nights as live entertainment and karaoke add a new layer of conversational material to ponder.
