What People Are Saying About Baleen

In Short – The elegant kitsch of the dining room plays well despite the chimpanzee candleholders and peculiar chandeliers made of monkey sculptures. Tucked away on the quiet gated waterfront community of Grove Isle, captivating bay vies await a well-dressed crowd with fancy appetites, pampered by an ample staff of attentive servers. A succulent fried snapper, parted by a sea of creamy and sweet coconut rice, is as tasty as it is colorful.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME

by happyvicky at Citysearch

I went to Baleen for my birthday dinner and it ended up being an awful experience. The table we requested was "just sat" despite having reservations they said we would have to wait an hour and a half for the table. We took the available table even though it wasnt what we reserved. The service was very poor, the food took a long time to come and I never even got the glass of wine i ordered with my dinner although I was charged for it!! Our waitress didnt check on us or she would have known! The food was ok but not worth the money. Then to top it off, the required valet is $10 even if you just spent hundreds of dollars in the restaraunt. Find another place, the only thing this place has going for them is the view!

  • Pros: View
  • Cons: $10 valet, poor service, average food
5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

Beautiful Ambience

by darlingdiva78 at Citysearch

Baleen was lovely...delicious food, wonderful service. We sat on the outdoor patio--a little too dark, but they gave us little flashlights to read the menus.

  • Pros: ambience, food
  • Cons: a little too dim outdoors, car must be valet parked, even with reservations we had to wait to be seated

Not sure I would return..

by diceros at Citysearch

I was expecting to pay a lot, so $350 for a dinner for 2 was not surprising, I was however, surprised that when our dinner was lost (120 minutes to be served), the waiter only asked me if I wanted to talk to the manager like that is something I want to do on a romantic dinner. For that price it would have been nice to get a free dessert or coffee, but nothing. With that said, the view and ambiance, sitting on a secluded table by the bay and the outdoor sitting by the bar was the best I ever had in the Miami area. I might return for drinks, but not sure for dinner.

  • Pros: View, decor, ambience
  • Cons: Service, service, service!
