Great place to mix and mingle.
My girlfriends and I stayed here last August. We got a great rate for the weekend and were plesantly suprised by the stellar customer service and friendly staff. I thought I left one of my bags there and one of the agents called all over the hotel looking for it and called me at the airport with an update.
The daily barbeques were such a treat and we loved the poolside bar and music. There are so many cute perks at this place like daily continental bk in lounge and drinks in the evening.
The Hotel Catalina creates a great atmosphere to mingle with other hotel guests. If you want a place where you can meet other folks and just have a good time, stay here.
PS The rooms were basic and clean.

This Collins Avenue hipster hotel gives guests their trendy fix without breaking the bank..
In Short
Built in 1952, Catalina clings to its Art Deco roots but also cranks up an eye-popping crimson-on-white decor, from white walls to red carpet and a ruby cocktail bar at the check-in area. Hip, loud techno greets guests as they walk in. Though less expensive than some hotels farther south, Catalina isn't skimpy: Signatures include Mascioni sheets, Belgian goose-down comforters, iPod docking stations, flat-screened televisions and wireless Internet in the rooms.
