the best burger on the beach.
I love Dewey's. I always get a burger and I think their burgers are the best. It is just the most comfortable locals bar I have been to - now I am a local so maybe it is important to live in this neighborhood to get this place. Maybe the bartender (they don't have waitress' at deweys) should have made him a long island Ice Tea then maybe he would have liked the lunch companion.

It's not a fast food restaurant....
At 1 in the afternoon I would expect to find nothing other than an alcoholic having a drink at Dewey's. People go there for cheap drinks and decent bar food. Not sure what the first reviewer had in mind when they walked into Dewey's but it is a good spot to just sit back and have some cheap drinks with the local characters. It's not the cleanest, the service is decent unless you get fancier than a beer, straight shot, or an easy to mix drink, and it's not a 5 star restaurant... It's the neighborhood cheap bar.
I'll admit there are some different folks and some do like to talk but there's nothing wrong with that. Sit down, order a drink and a shot, leave your attitude at home, and smile for once. I don't think there has ever been an occasion where I've gone to Dewey's for a drink and left without having some sort of conversation with the other patrons, even if they don't remember it the next day, or even a few hours later.
All this typing has made me thirsty. It's almost noon... I think I'll go to Dewey's for an early afternoon treat. See you there sometime. But don't sit at my table unless you want some company!!!

Very strange place.
I stopped by Dewey's Tavern around 1pm today for a cheeseburger. There were inviting chalkboard signs outside touting various food items and I used to go here regularly when it was the Daub Haus. Dimly lit with the smell of stale cigarette smoke in the air, I quickly wondered about the wisdom of my decision. The waitress told me to sit wherever I liked (there was only one person in the place - at the bar) and asked what I would like to drink. I told her an iced tea, and she laughed out loud. "This is a local bar - we serve alcohol" was her curt remark. I asked for a soft drink, which she provided, still laughing at me. After ordering my cheeseburger the waitress told me "it's going to take 20 minutes you know." Gradually the local clientele started filtering in, a woman who insisted in sitting at my table even though there was no one else in the place, a older man with his two month old grandchild and the self proclaimed "alcoholic" who kept showing the baby the crucifix on his necklace. After the woman who sat at my table began hurling insults at me, and the waitress asked "haven't you ever been here before?" left the table and asked for my burger to go. It was not edible.
This appears to be a great place to go if you suffer from mental illness, are an alcoholic, love to smoke and don't care about the effects of second hand smoke on a baby. Otherwise, I'd recommend McDonald's for a burger that you can at least eat.

Let your hair down at this laid-back antidote to the trendy nightclubs and velvet ropes of South Beach..
In Short
This is where locals go when they want to be themselves. You're miles away from the fashion police, so go ahead and wear those old jeans. The DJ is a jukebox, and the pickup games are more in the vein of billiards and darts. Several small television sets are perched above the bar, broadcasting the big games. Grab a wooden stool by the bar and relax with a bottle of your favorite domestic brew.
