Editorial Review for Pawn Shop – by Heather Wood and Dylan Taylor
The Scene
Don't let the original 1930s pawn shop exterior fool you, this is a nightclub. The vintage vibe permeates the interior design. Interior walls are splattered with neon light in abstract patterns. Seating areas are carved out of old dentists' chairs, carnival photo booths, a formerly yellow school bus and a re-created 727. The clientele is tragically hip (just ask Paris Hilton, who partied here on opening weekend). Word to the wise: Dress to impress.
The Draw
Two bars keep the drinks flowing, a dance floor keeps the bodies moving and sweating and a spacious lounge area serves as a place to relax. The outdoor patio is shag carpeted and serves as seating area for prime people-watching. DJs spin everything from rock to house and live bands appear weekly.

Pawnshop was without question the absolute worst experience I have ever encountered in all of Florida's clubs and night life! Between the Staff, Clientele, Ambiance, Enviroment and sounds I honestly couldn't tell you what was the worst part. I noticed the positive reviews here on Citysearch are from Pawnshop affiliates... sad.
Pros: other close by quality night life
Cons: waste of time, money and unnecessary frusteration

I decided to finally go to Pawn Shop with some people after hearing great things about it from other friends of mine. When we got to the front door the bouncers started to card us, which was fine, but what wasn’t is that they started to HECKLE us about our ages even though we were all over the age of 21 using our Florida driver’s license! They eventually let us in. When we got in, Pawn Shop was loud and rackety. People were low-class, lolifes, skanky, and just plain boring. We decided to leave, and when we walked out, the bouncers pleaded for us to stay by offering to buy us drinks on the house. My friends thought it would be rude to deny them after they persisted for so long; as a result, we headed back in and to the bar. When we got there the bartender flipped out on the bouncer and argued about giving us free drinks; she then demanded to see our driver’s license to card us AGAIN! My two friends gave her theirs, after the bartender complained for a while to the bouncer IN FRONT OF US, she then poured my friends their two drinks. I proceeded to hand her my driver’s license, meanwhile she was still complaining about giving us drinks and not believing that are licenses’ were real. I was so aggravated, I told her to scan my license on the register, she became even ruder when I said this, and whipped out this flashlight and started analyzing, bending, doing all these ridiculous things until she realized that my Florida license was in fact, REAL. When she asked me what I wanted to drink I told her that I actually wanted nothing, and I just wanted her to "check out" my license. She became furious, nastily smirked at me and turned away. Anyway, we left immediately after that. I’ve never been so rudely treated in my life. I’m sure you’ll get in if you dress skanky and are sleazy. Don’t go here for a good time. Drive a few blocks away and head over to Circa 28 instead. Great music, fun people, and NICE staff!
Pros: Other lounges are near the area; so, if Pawn Shop turns out as bad as it was for me, you can easily hop in the car and drive a block or two to a great place.
Cons: Dangerous area, parking can be expensive, ambience is horrible, staff is outrageously rude!
