Editorial Review for Voda – by Daniel Liszt
The Scene
Blue hues back-light geometric shapes hanging from white walls, giving the midsized room postmodern allure. A sleek steel bar near the entrance showcases the impressive vodka collection. Wearing blue, white or red, the female waitstaff's attire matches the art-deco leather couches. In a far corner, a slightly elevated DJ booth radiates funky house tunes. The music may be club-quality, but this is not a dance destination.
The Draw
Sixty-five vodkas from around the globe are offered--everything from Italian specialties to Israel's kosher Kemel. One can even find Jay-Z's Armadale and tons of locally produced gems, like Alameda's Hangar Mandarin (ideal when blended into a cosmo). The most expensive vodka is less than $10, while a mere $5 buys a shot of anything on the menu.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe selection may be daunting, but the menu (alphabetized and split into sections like "Dry & Elegant" and "Full Bodied") lists each vodka's place of origin and quirky qualities.
What to DrinkTry a caramel-infused vodka on the rocks--it's like sipping liquid candy.
On the MenuThe Asian-inspired menu includes items like California rolls, yakatori, veggie spring rolls and edamame.

I went to this bar for an after dinner drink with a friend after having dined at a nearby Italian restaurant on this street. This place is over-rated to say the least! Drinks are expensive and small, music way too loud (I thought I would never hear myself say that!) my friend and I practically had to shout at one another to carry on a conversation (Hey guys, did you ever hear the expression "background music" so your bar patrons can converse with one another?!) The wait staff were clueless and unattentive. Overall experience rates as a I won't be returning anytime soon. Good luck Voda!
Pros: Not a one
Cons: Plenty (read my review above)

An awesome establishment with one of the most extensive vodka lists... I would say, one area where Voda shines is the infused vodka; the caramel vodka is one of my favorite drinks ever! It has a very smooth taste to it with a caramel taste and aroma. I have even been inspired to try my own but have come to the conclusion to keep coming back to Voda! The decor in voda is a phosphorescent hue of pink and blue with red leather comfy couches. There is usually a dj spinning and two or three large groups of happy hour crowds. I have seen Voda marked as a singles spot but it seems at times it can be packed or slower depending on the time of the day. Being that it is on Belden Place, adds to the charm of Voda. The large crowd of outside diners at the other restaurants and the lights over head make Belden Place a top downtown destination.
Pros: Caramel vodka, on the very awesome Belden lane, great friday happy hour crowd, sleek lounge ambiance
