Despite its Hollywood connections, this franchise's focus is on pumping iron, not newfangled razzle-dazzle.. In Short
The Terminator and the Incredible Hulk (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno) lifted weights at the gym's Venice, California, flagship years ago, but even today, customers frequenting charter locations are bound to encounter serious muscle. Take note: The boys with bulging biceps are the mascots, not the majority. Gold's generally offers Spinning, aerobics and kickboxing classes, yet weight-training remains the core of the program. Dumbbells and barbells, not spa-like amenities, are the attractions that draw the beef-heads in droves.

No Gold at Gold's. This is a good facility with good machines and free weights, but the last bastion of serious male

chauvinism. If you are a woman looking to be taken seriously, look elsewhere. Women are relegated

to the cardio section of the room and are expected to be quiet and make no waves. The men are

burly, raucous, and uncooperative when a woman tries to use the machines. Management expressed

dissatisfaction with female clients, calling them "nuisances" and "difficult". When I complained that

the machines were stacked to the top with heavy weights and no one in the staff was willing to remove them, the manager just offered a refund and seemed glad to get me out of there. Management changes hands often in this location. Wonder why?

Definitely not for women. I walked into this gym and had an initial favorable impression. Good machines, lots of windows, an owner who said that customer service was very important . My experience exactly the opposite: lots of attitude, unresponsive employees and an attitude that women were a pain in the neck.

In summary: women not welcome unless you shut up and put up with loud rock music and lots of attitude from the staff.
