Editorial Review for Taverna Opa – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Dried herbs hang from the rafters and village scenes dot the walls of the rustic interior. Though waiters once broke into folk dances here, Opa has evolved into a drum-throbbing, belly-dancing dive where anyone can mount tables to shimmy. The menu features grilled seafoods and meats, moussaka and meze (Greek tapas). Desserts include phyllo-custard pie and yogurt drizzled with mountain honey and walnuts. Anise-flavored ouzo is available for those who want an authentic alcoholic drink.

I recommend Taverna Opa for great Greek food and ambiance. in South Beach, FL. You are encouraged to dance on tables, have too much wine and pretend you are vacationing in a Greek isle! Love it! A couple caveat: first, the hummus is amazing.. beware, the garlic will be on your breath for at least 3 days! Secondly, the friendly waiters will always upcharge you..especially when you've had a couple bottles of wine! But somehow you don't end up minding too much because the music and booze will be flowing! This is not the place to go for an intimate dinner.. this is the best place to go with a large crowd or if you really don't want to talk to your date or dinner mates!
Pros: The best place to forget about your problems and be yourself
Cons: None

I was in town for a wedding a group of 11 of us went to Opa. We are all underage and were able to be served alcohol. We were aware of the $350 we'd be charged for the two bottles of Grey Goose and were told by the waiter that we had to order atleast $20 of food for the table in order to order food. But when they were bringing out plate after plate of food out we were a little confused. After a night of drinking and dancing on the tables our $650 bill arrived (excluding tip!). With all the hecticness of the restaurant we were barely able to explain our situation and they even threatened to call the cops on us becuase we simply didn't have that much money. In short we had to pay with a debit card the total amount becuase they wouldn't let us pay partial cash and partial debit. It was a fun time but absouletly not worth the bill at the end of the night. We didn't order ANY of the food, even when they said $20 minimum of food for the table we still hadn't ordered one dish before they were bringing tons of food out to us. The manager was unable to compromise and there was bad service. I would not recomend this place.
Pros: Good for groups
Cons: Being robbed, Bad service, Reservations are a problem here
