Foodies: Save Your Stomachs from Shoddy Seafood.
I love oysters. From The Oceanaire to Monty's, serve them cold & on the half shell. If I'm going to pay $5 an oyster at River Oyster Bar, I sure as heck expect expert shucking. Maybe the flavor would be unique as explained, but who can tell while fishing shell out of your mouth with every single solitary oyster. Huge hunks of shell! Add to it that even getting a drink took an eternity. Over an hour went by, and while we were still waiting for course two (the first being raw oysters and that took 40 minutes), some regulars sat down next to us. Not only did they have bread immediately (which we practically had to beg for like the last supper), but they got all of their food before my date and myself. Oh, and did I mention that restaurant was practically empty? But from the snotty service, you would have thought there was a two-year waiting list. Save your money & go elsewhere. River Oyster Bar may have deserved their excellent reputation years ago, but they certainly don't deserve it now.
must agree, the manager is very bad at what she does.
I was at the river with few of my friend and we were treated very badly by the manager. She is very angry and has a very fake smile on her face that made us so uncomfortable that we had to leave to go to Indochin next door, where we a great time, great food and most of all the management was extra nice.
The only reason I posted this is because I saw someone else posted about her.. SHE MUST BE STOPPED!

I got to be honest they have decent oyster but our waiter was the BIG reason why we kept going back, he was very knowledge, but we have stopped going and so did our friends because the manager is the biggest rug muncher ever! that woman tells everyone that she is the manager and the owner and if you have a problem leave.
She treats guests like CHILDREN! gets mad, tells you so don't leave your seats and so on. If you think you are going to go here spend some big bucks and get the thank you you deserve....forget about it.
This manager is a blond woman you really needs to get out of this business and leave it to the professionals.
This oyster bar offers more than just seafood; drinks and a singles scene make it the place to be seen.. In Short The raw bar is here but the décor is anything but raw. Whether the mahogany bar or linen-covered tables wins your attention, the seafood may be fresh but the upscale experience has been carefully orchestrated. The corporate lunchtime crowd and dinner dating set dig into the signature oysters, saving room for crab cakes, tuna tacos, and chilled ceviche.
The River Oyster Bar and Grille was a wonderful surprise, the staff is very knowledgeable about both the great food, and wonderful wine list. The service is great, food was outstanding, great wines by the glass or bottle, even a great beer list. Prices are quite low for the quality of seafood and selection of wine. The best meal I have had since I left Chicago 5 years ago.
