Never again - Liars and Cheats.
We showed up on a rainy night with a reservation but because of the rain the outdoor seating was closed and as a result their reservations were backed up. We understood, and took them up on their offer to sit, all 6 of us, in a small table outside barely covered by an umbrella while our table inside opened up. Hungry, we ordered some small dishes and wine while our table opened up. For 40 minutes we waited, reassured by the owner that the next table was ours. So just as "our table" was about to open up, they took our entree orders. Appreciative we ordered but just as our table opened up, they sat the party behind us and they immediatly brought our food out to us outside, where we sat crammed and cold. We sent the food back and confronted the now unapologetic manager.
They lied and took advantage of us right in front of our face. They saw an opportunity to weasel us and squeeze in another party on a full night. They thought we wouldn't notice or speak up.
The service is awful and the food I wouldn't know because we sent it back.
I don't recommend this place, South Beach has too many other great resturuants to put up with this.

Is irony the secret ingredient at AltaMar? Despite the Spanish theme, AltaMar's menu is predominantly Italian with dishes like salmon-stuffed ravioli and clam-topped linguini. As a seafood specialist, the eatery is on the wrong side of the pedestrian-happy Lincoln Road entertainment district, blocks away from the crowds and the Atlantic shoreline. The dining room itself feels small and cramped yet the outdoor patio is generously spacious. Surprises and contrasts? The locals can't get enough.
Overrated and bad customer service.
Zagat rated the food in this restaurant 26. I have eaten at many top Zagat-rated restaurants throughout the U.S. and would rate it no higher than 24. The food is about average for similar priced restaurant: soft-shelled crab and tuna tataki appetizer was no better than what you would get at other restaurants without being price-gouged for $22; the red snapper with citrus was an interesting touch but everyone in my party swears the sauce is nothing more than flavored chicken stock; Jack with mustard mustard sauce tasted chicken alfredo (and where did the mustard go?).
What made this place below average is the subpar service. Upon walking in the wait staff looked at members of my party from head to toe, even though we were not dressed any better or any worse than everyone else. The waiter seemed angry - even had the tenacity to slam the check on the table without saying a word and waited a full 10 minutes to retrieve the payment, again without saying a word, even though we had the credit card prominently displayed and the waiter had nothing better to do than stand a mere few feet away. We tried to flag him down several times but, believe it or not, he actually ignored us. We left with a bad taste in our mouth.
