DO NOT RENT - filthy, old vehicles, SCAM, FRAUD. DO NOT RENT FROM RENT a WRECK! I rented a car at Rent a Wreck at 2901 NW 7th Ave Miami, Fl 33127 .Via kayak for $30 a day. When I arrived at the location, I was shocked at the filth and condition of all of the vehicles. The owner proceeded to explain that I would be paying an extra $10 per day because I booked less than 48 hours in advance plus an additional $10 to have the sunpass sticker (which is offered free in in the state of Florida). When I said that i wanted to cancel he informed me that there is a no cancellation policy and no refunds. The car was at least 15 years old. The air-condition offed two choices, either off or on full blast. The radio did not work on the vehicle. The interior was a filthy disgusting mess, there was not even a sun visor! The exterior was dented with rusty paint. I was mortified to be seen in such a vehicle. On the third day of the rental the tire completely blew out while I was driving 60 miles per hour on a busy Miami highway. I pulled over to the side of the road and called the company. The owner proceeded to tell me that it was my responsibility to fix the tire. Irate, I told him that I did not think that was fair. He then said to me that I "put a key to the tire" insinuating that I damaged the tire on purpose). He then hung up on me, and did not answer my multiple calls after that. After the donut was put on, I drove back to Rent a Wreck Miami to have them either change the tire, as I had paid for another day or give me my $250 deposit back. At that point he told me that I damaged the rim by driving on the tire and that not only was he not changing the tire, he was not giving me back the vehicle AND he was keeping my $250 deposit for damages. So in total I have paid $370 to rent a junk car for 3 days. The owner was rude, unprofessional, verbally and physically threatening. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY.
DO NOT USE !!! RIP OFF!!!!!!. Awful!!! Never use this company. The guy that answers his phone and tell you to pick up the car at his house. I arrived today at 3pm and call the phone number listed and he told me that he is closed. That I have to pay 50 dollars more per after hour pick up, that I had to come to his house and his renal place is closed on Sunday. So 100 dollars more then what is listed on my email. Never once was I told this on the website or on email about the the extra charges. On top of that the guy tells me I have to pay the whole amount in cash. That I can not pay credit card. What the heck????? He was rude on the phone. I paid deposit but will fight it with my bank now. Do not waste your time. Pay more and go some where else if you don't you will be stranded like me!!!
READ REVIEWS BEFOR YOU RENT. HE'S CROOKED.
DO NOT GO TO HIS HOME. After the taxi left and I had no ride home, he told me he would not allow me to charge the rental as previously agreed because I looked like "someone" that would dispute a charge. (Keep in mind I was there with my father in law and we were celebrating a 50th anniversary) He told me he would drive me to a bank where I can get the cash, pay in full then and only then would he rent to me. I ran out of there and called a taxi. He never let me talk on the phone and I decided to hang up.
Was the worst experience ever.
Hertz had a car for us in an hour. Paid more but I was treated with mutual respect.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!.
Dirt-bag doesn't even begin to describe the owner of this "establishment." I wish I would have taken the advice of Yelp reviewers and other websites (extremely accurate) reviews of this Rent-A-Wreck branch. Not only did the owner Eduardo threaten me, but he called me ignorant and stupid on the phone, and didn't even let me speak before hanging up on me. Furthermore, when I had a problem with the car, he came and took it and left me without a replacement. My vacation was ruined because of his dubious actions. This guy is absolutely ruining the brand of Rent-A-Wreck, and what is sad is that the corporate office has no oversight of his actions. I called to complain and was flat out told that they can't help me. I am seriously considering a lawsuit. He and his employees are total scum...I had an awful feeling walking into this place and should have followed my gut. DO NOT RENT from this company! I repeat - DO NOT RENT from this company. They don't even deserve one star...I wish I could give them negative stars.
I did have a bad experience, so that is why I am writing here, but from the get-go this place was bad news before my experience went south. I ended up paying way more for renting a car with them then it was worth. They have hidden fees and their contract is absolutely ridiculous.
Do yourself a favor and go with Enterprise or one of the other reputable rental car establishments...you will be much safer and better taken care of in the end.
Great SMALL company!!.
Here's what you need to know about rent a wreck Miami - they are a small, locally owned franchise. You are dealing with people, not a faceless mega-conglomerate here.
If you treat them like people, they can and WILL go out of their way to accomodate you. If you have an unusual request or problem, they will listen, and help, if they can. If you are rude and inconsiderate, you might (eventually) get a rude response.
I don't work for rent a wreck of Miami. I live in Colorado, and have rented from rent a wreck twice. They were great, even when I needed some extra help, like getting to Miami from Fort Lauderdale. In Colorado, 22 miles is a very short distance, but in metro south Florida, it felt like 150.
They have always been extremely nice to me, and i really prefer renting with them to the megacompanies. I would prefer renting a car tha'ts a few years old for a cheaper price - you aren't going to impress anyone driving a Cobalt either way. Its been a perfect fit for us.
The biggest problem with rent a wreck - they have to charge a $50 nonrefundable fee for reservations. Their reservation company (rent a wreck inc) charges THEM a $50 reservation fee. I actually READ the information on the website when i booked (this is stated very clearly) and i was prepared when i had to cancel my vacation and cough up the $50. I wasn't thrilled, but i didn't have a hissy-fit blowout, either. The rules are clear.
All in all, a great SMALL company. I've enjoyed doing business with them, and will continue to rent with them. Unfortunately, people rarely take the time to write reviews when they are satisfied, but can't wait to write a negative review when they aren't happy. Thank you Eddie and company - I'll be back!!
The worst Rental car company.
I booked a rental car with them for pick at 7:00PM when I was directed to them from Kayak. For some reason their website changed my pick up time to 12 Noon. I realized the booking error and called them in less than 5 mins. They asked me to cancel the reservation because their airport location at Seattle airport closes at 6:00 PM. I told them the whole situation and requested them to cancel my reservation and I ws told that I will be charged $45 cancelation fee. The representation was a jerk, I asked to be connected to a Manager. I was told that no manager on duty. I called 5 times (over a period of 4 hrs) afterwards and could finally speak with a manager who is even a bigger jerk and hung up my phone after listening to the situation. I called again 5 times during next 2 hrs and spoke the first person who kept repeating himself like an idiot.
End result, I had to pay $45 because their AIRPORT location closes at 6:00. I have never seen any airport location closing so early.
BEWARE . DO NOT RENT from these CROOKS. I made a reservation today via KAYAK. They seemed to offer a reasonable rate. But when I got to the location I was quoted a whole different price. When I said I did not want to pay that much I was offered a lower price if I pay all cash upfront. Then I was told there are other fees. So I said forget it , I don't want it. Then I was told I would be charged a $50 fee to cancel the reservation. The men working there were dressed scruffy, unshaven and had a very bad attitude. I felt like I was dealing with a street hustler. I'm used to dealing with well presented , respectful honest people at Enterprise, Budget, Hertz etc. Don't be fooled by the price, you will end up paying more.
DANGER DANGER DANGER.
DON'T RENT HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DANGEROUS CARS ! DANGEROUS PERSONS!
IT's A TOTAL SCAM;
DO NOT PAY IN CASH!
DECLARE TO IRS AND DPBR.
THEY MUST STOP THEIR BUSINESS ASAP.
DON4T GO THERE......
Got exactly what I was offered. Good experience.
I was initially reluctant because of other reviews here, but ended up doing it anyways and I am glad.
Cheaper compared to all other car rentals. Good service, as expected, no problems.
On top of that, the owner discounted part of the price because I didn't have my own liability insurance and that had to be added (like at any other car rental).
Most bad reviews I've read are from people that don't understand the terms of car rental (or business in general, it seems)
I got exactly what I was offered, paid exactly what I was told I would pay, and got a good car for at least 30% less than any other rental place.
Can you rate something zero stars?. The guy on the phone literally told me he didn't give a "F%$#g s%$t" over the phone. Does this tell you everything? Rent a moped before you try to rent a car from this guy!
