Editorial Review for Cielo – by E. Chen

The Scene
Velvet rope? "Barbed wire" might be a more apt description. After sufficient grilling from the requisite outlandish bouncers, a narrow hallway illuminated by a single blue light leads into a sceney New York moment. With a maximum capacity of a scant 250, Cielo's space is cozy and conducive to some serious grooving, even if its bar and doorstaff are not. The small space's ski chalet meets beach surf style--with warmly lit walls resembling insulating "logs", and the pool-blue, sunken dance floor as inviting as a mid-summer dip--caters to those seeking a rarefied atmosphere.

The Draw
Restraint is the worst faux pas committable at Nicolas Matar's club--Matar being the former resident DJ at Pacha, Ibiza's see-and-be-seen spot for dancing till dawn. Rest assured that the music will be high-energy, the champagne perfectly chilled, and the ladies (and gentlemen) gorgeous.

Insider Tips

What to Drink

Don't bother asking for a drink list and don't order anything too complicated from the perpetually stressed bartenders. Nicholas Feuillatte Palme D'Or Brut champagne is the libation of choice.

Know Before You Go

With only nine banquettes, you won't find any spare nooks to store your layers. Coat check is a must.

Well, I didn't want to pay $300 to enter in Cielo on Wednesday, simple as that. They're sexist. If you're girl with big front and good a*s, yeah, you will get in, otherwise, find some other place. I would never go to Cielo anyway but Louie Vega was the reason - not anymore. I will never listen to his music again, I didn't know that it's all about money to him, I could never imagine that Louie Vega could be one of them, I already throw out all Vinyls and CD-s, anything related to MAW is gone - forever! And he didn't show up at all. Music was very sh**ty. I wanted to experience myself that famous door policy, I was suspicious to all those negative reviews. They were right! It's not about music, it's about money, and just money. Those youngsters with never heard for many DJ-s, they probably think that Louie Vega is some new Tiesto or some german-euro-trash DJ. Club was empty when we arrived and we was ready to leave them $400 on drinks anyway, but to get in for "just" $300 - nonsense. There are no DJ who could make me to pay $300 to enter in stinky dark place with some "face control" (wash yourself man before job), I would rather go to Lennox Lounge and listen some quality live jazz. for $200. If you're house music lover, you should not even consider going there. That was my mistake, and it will never happen again. I just wish that everyone feel Cielo's door policy on their skin, you'll be surprised just to see what you can get with fake b**bs and no brain.

Pros: Advertising is good, everything else thumbs down

Cons: $300 for tickets, no light, stinky, looks like hell outside, it's not about music, it's about who's who.money.money.greedy

Tough luck for anyone not with the "private party" at this brilliantly designed club.  See the full editorial review.
