In Short
The atmosphere is a bit brash and so are the Gallic waitresses, but the food is well worth it. Instead of burgers and fries, however, expect chateaubriand, pommes frites and other hearty French fare served at moderate prices. Check the chalkboard for daily specials, all prepared to order. And be sure to get there early to taste some of the house specialties like beef Burgundy, trout almondine, and frogs' legs Provenca, which sell out quickly.

Never tried this diner before. Went in for early dinner and place was empty. Took 45 minutes for soup course (french onion which the cheese was burnt). Took another 20 minutes for entree was was filet serve with scalloped potatoes which was not edible. No refills offered on beverages nor did waiter every ask how the food was. Wait staff did not seem to be interested in serving customers only refilling the supplies. Highly recommend avoiding this resaurant if you can call it a restaurant.

An ordinary diner this is NOT! Moreso a French Bistro inside a 1950's Diner Car. You will not find burgers, fries, or milkshakes, instead, you'll find fine wine, and an even finer menu. Shrimp and scallops sauted with tomato, lemon and garlic, veal piccatta, oso buco and even escargot. Whatever you order, you are sure to totally enjoy and savor, because every bite is absolutely delicious. The service is as impeccable as the food. Our only comment on the down side was the chocolate mousse cake....the cake part was a little dry, but the mousse was out of this world. their prices are those of a french bistro, but are well worth what you get in return. So...if you enjoy fine dining, great service and so much more, you will love the Gourmet Diner. Don't let the outside fool you, what is inside is out of this world!

We were so disappointed. Read Herald reveiw that said it was good french food. Big disappointment. Bland food with no imagination. Sorely needse redecorating and general sprucing up. Food was not worth finishing. With any luck new owners will come in and clean up the place. If so, we'll be back.
