Tips for Cauley Square Shops

May 20, 2013

Total waste of a day. We were eaten alive by biting flies that were on the raccoon and cat droppings on the walkways. Some nice artists in the few remaining occupied cabins, and a first class bird store at the entrance, but other than that, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone for anything. We were totally disgusted with our experience at Cauley Square and would never go back even if you paid us to do so.

The only reason we chose this venue for our wedding was because we fell in love with the natural setting but choosing it was the biggest mistake ever. When we first sat down with the owner Frances we were promised a lot of things that never came through at last minute such as the plates for the catering, ice, silverware even refreshments. Considering the fact that we got the catering through them I thought it was ridiculous that these things were not included not to mention the fact that they let us know at last minute just a couple of days before the wedding. Every time we called to speak to someone about our wedding no one ever knew what we were talking about or they "didn't have our contract". The wedding coordinator Annabell never picked up the phone and was no help at all, the day of our wedding she was no one where to be found. Whenever the owner was available (which was almost never) she was rude and disrespectful. She always had a completely different story about what she was going to include for the catering.

The day of the wedding we came to the venue early to set up, the fountain area where we had our reception was filled with leaves and dirty. We were promised that it was at least going to be cleaned by the time we got there. There was also a bunch of chairs and tables smack in the middle which they refused to move when we finally found a worker. Even the linens were two hours late. When someone finally showed up they were showing the venue while we were setting up which was ridiculous not only that but during our actual wedding and reception they kept showing the venue and our decoration to potential clients even after we told them to please stop. Even when the reception finished we had to clean ourselves because apparently they don't "clean up after you". Planning a wedding is always stressful but the venue and the owner made it the worst experience of my life.

Even after the wedding they kept one of our tables and refused to give it back and HERE'S THE WORST PART after the wedding one of the workers tried to use my mother-in-laws bank account to pay their phone bill.

I DO NOT recommend this place AT ALL. The owner is really rude and doesn't care once she has your money not even your personal information you give them is safe. This is suppose to be a special day and customers should never be treated the way we were treated and taken advantage of. We loved our wedding because we had a lot of help from friends ad family to make it all happen but if there is one thing that I would change is the venue. It was absolutely terrible and all I can say is that I'm glad it's all over.

Piece of Old Miami. Cauley Square has a very old feel. The shops and scenery are very comfortable, and the resident cats and raccoons are very fun to watch. The shopping and food are pretty good, though only a few of the shops are worth visiting. Some might find all the animals overwhelming, but from what I've noticed, everyone loves them.

The general area is very beautiful, which is odd considering the poor area that surrounds it. I was pleasantly surprised, and I will surely return. Some shops worth mentioning are an antique shop called 'Whittington's Cat', a fun old fashioned toy/candy shop behind it, a fun little fish store, and some numerous fortune tellers and psychics if you are feeling adventurous. I enjoyed my trip to Cauley Square, and I'm sure many others will.
