Taxis >Tropical Taxi Inc
horrible experience with mgmt from Tropical Taxi June 2009.
OK, here's the story. It's a little bit long, but it's interesting insight from someone who rarely writes reviews online.
An elderly woman was wandering around my condo lobby area looking lost & saying she was looking for the Avant Garde. She was convinced she could get there by going through the pool area to the other tower, but sadly that's not the case. The Avant Garde is in another town about 10 minutes away. I realized she was probably suffering from alzherimer's so I called a cab to take her home. When asked, the elderly lady told me she had no money & didn't want to go with the cabbie because walking there would be faster (again, not the case). I told her I'd pay for the cab. The cab came, she got in, then she got out & was going to continue wandering because she thought the driver didn't know how to get there & thought she was better off walking, but eventually got back in.
Here's where it gets interesting. I opened my wallet to give the cabbie $20 but realized I only had $1. So immediately the cabbie called his manager & explained that we had no money & the manager said something to the effect of "get out of there quickly. Leave the woman." Now, as a businessman, I can understand not wanting to work for nothing, but I had told the cabbie I'd go to the ATM with them to get money to pay for the ride. The manager didn't seem to pick up on that over the phone & forbade the driver from taking the woman. I think what bothers me most is that one will never know when it will be their relative (or their mother) that is lost & might need a friendly helping hand. To run away from doing a nice thing for someone in need is horrible.
So let's not salute Tropical Taxi in Sunny Isles, Florida for the way they treated, not me, but the elderly, alzheimer-suffering woman today wearing a pink outfit who had a key in her pocketbook that said Room #___ (concealed for her privacy) who was lost, probably fearful inside although she didn't know it, & was just trying to get home.
