Editorial Review for Mario the Baker – by Victoria Pesce Elliott

In Short
For more than 30 years, this low-key family pizzeria has been turning out hot, thin-crust, New York-style pizzas topped with high-quality toppings. These days the neighborhood has changed, but the outstanding pizza hasn't. The staff is friendly and used to dealing with loyal regulars who come for the cheap and tasty dishes. In addition to pizza, options include southern Italian specialties like veal parmigiana, meatball heros, baked ziti, lasagna and doughy garlic rolls.

There was nothing there that I would call superior, but they committed no major mistakes, either. I had a pepperoni pizza, and the cheese, the toppings, the sauce, the crust, were all nondescript. The service was indifferent, despite the restaurant being half-empty. I do remember it being affordable, but I'm used to paying a quality price for a quality pizza. You can do better if you care to.

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Cheap.
