Only go to US1. Shorty's BBQ located on US1 is the only one my family and I eat at, great service, great food, great atmosphere to take your family. the only issue with this shortys is that sometimes the bathroom smell lingers into the rest of the restaurant.

BAD FOOD AND WORSE SERVICE - STAY AWAY. I have alway liked to have new experience with food, but this one I could have done without...

My partner and I made a trip to Shorty's BBQ in Deerfield Beach in the hopes of having a decent meal, we obliviously had bargained for too much.

We were aware of this very soon on when we walked in, we stood at an empty hostess station for 3 to 4 minutes before we were finally attended to. Another server came out and asked us or herself "where is this girl?", referring to the server that we would unfortunately be serving us. We were seated and finally our server Rachel came over reeking of cigarettes, I asked her if she had just come back from a smoke and if so, did she wash her hands? She said she had not , and she said that she "always washes her hands though..." We were not buying it at all.

When we looked at the menu, we where never helped by her as to what they offered and we where never told about the specials or combos. That made ordering a longer and unpleasant experience. I said to her that I wanted to have ribs. All she did was point with her dirty hands at the items on the page I was looking at. She never showed us the combos page or made any other selling suggestions.

While we were waiting for our food, she was sweeping up and doing some end of shift cleaning. When our food was ready, she did not wash her hands before going into the kitchen. She may have done so in the back out of our sight, but I don't believe that she did.

When the food came to the table, my partners pulled pork sandwich was not hot at all, I asked her how they heated up the pork, she said that was not done in a microwave. She took the plate and returned in 2 minutes and the pork was warmer but still not hot and the BBQ sauce had not changed color , this is a a sure indicator that it was reheated in a microwave oven and not in a saute pan.

When she had put my food down, her fingers were in the food, I was losing my appetite by the minute.

My ribs were hot enough and so were my veg, but they lacked flavor and seasoning.

The price was reasonable for the sandwich, $7.79, but 15.99 for flavorless ribs I thought was just bit too much.

Durning the course of the meal we were never asked if we wanted more to drink or how our food was. There was a clear absence of any kind of management there and lack of interest in the quality of the food or the service. We were very disappointed in the overall experience

In summery, If you want bad service cold-hot food and do this in a dirty place, then Shorty's is for you… I would say that this a place to avoid and tell your friend to avoid as well.

When I followed up with phone call to the corporate office, I spoke with Regina, she said I needed to speak with Mark. But he was in a meeting and I needed to call back in an hour. She never asked me for my Name or phone # to have Mark call me back. So my assumption is that the problems in this small chain of restaurants are systemic, from the top on down.

In this economy where a night out is a special and infrequent occasion for some, and this and all restaurants should make every attempt to ensure that they retain costumers and give them a good reason to return. They did everything to ensure that we never return and tell everyone of our bad experience there so they cal avoid this restaurant and all of their the stores.

Fantastic BBQ. This place has amazing BBQ. The ribs, pulled pork sandwich, onion rings and sweet potato are fabulous- this is proper Southern BBQ at its finest. I'm completely addicted to this place and sometimes pass up opportunities to go to more upscale restaurants to go to Shorty's. Its also a great value for your money. Make sure you go to their website before going because they often post coupons. Service is colorful but good. The one thing that sometimes disappoints me about the place is that more than once when I've been there, they've run out of something I've wanted to order.

Bad Quality Meets and Poor Sauces Make for Disappionting Experience. Even when BBQ is bad -- it is still tasty. Unfortunately, that doesn't hold true for Shorty's. The Shorty's on South Dixie Hwy serves low quality products and ranks low on the taste meter. The pork is hard and stringy, and the spare ribs have less meat on them than Nicole Ritchie at an anorexics anonymous meeting. The sauce is not thick and sweet or even slightly spicy like good BBQ should be, but namely brown, runny, vinegary goop. At first, I thought we had come to this place on a bad day, so we went back last week and had the same disappointing experience. If you've lived in Florida most of your life and have never experienced southern BBQ, or even Texas or Chicago BBQ, then I guess this mediocre fare would fit your palate. But if you've been enlightened and have had even moderately good BBQ in another locale, then you'll understand that Shorty's is just a pretender. Don't be fooled -- Shorty's has been around a long time not because it's good, but ONLY because it has no real competition from any other traditional BBQ houses in South Florida.

Consistently good service and food. Miami native remembers the old Shorty's way ago in the late 50's and 60's when you had to wait your turn in a long line for the finest barbecue is South Florida. Sadly, today's Shorty's is but a shadow of what it once was, the passion is just not there. Still, good barbecue, especially recommended is the half chicken platter or for lesser appetites the ridiculously cheap priced pork or beef sandwich. Avoid the ribs. My advice is to skip the US1 Shorty's and ask for directions to the Bird Road restaurant, far superior, imo.

Above average service. Shorty's is not what it once was. Years ago, we'd stand on line for half an hour waiting to get in. Now, the food seems too mediocre for such a long wait. The ribs, sauces, and Key Lime pie are good but the fries have got to be the worst ever made. The coleslaw is too "goopy" and the beans are just "okay". Come on, Shorty's, we miss the old days!!!

South Florida's most popular low-frills barbecue joint for more than half a century.. In Short
A favorite since 1951, Shorty's often has lines of hungry people stretching out the door. The old-fashioned log cabin building is bare-bones, with concrete floors and long wooden picnic tables. Seating is family-style, utensils are plastic and service is friendly and quick. A bulletin board menu lists various combinations of beef, chicken and pork, including platters and sandwiches. Ribs, including the baby backs, are lightly sauced, wood-smoked and grilled.

Great Memoirs that Water our Mouths. All of us that have lived in Miami at one point in our lives have Shorty´s in our hearts. Its not only the great juicy BBQ ribs, or the greasy corn on the cob, but also the memoirs left in our hearts. I´ll never forget:

* The white haired elder waitress that has been there for ages.

* Waiting for the Flyer coupons to have an excuse to go to Shorty´s (even if we didn´t use the coupons after all)

* Going with our parents, high school friends, families, and then taking our children to taste the best ribs in town. I mean generation after generation.

* No matter what the occasion is, this is the place to go!

BAD SAUCE. Their sauce tastes like an ASHTRAY. Coming form NC, I have high expectations of barbecue.

Shorty's DOESN'T cut it. Their pulled pork sandwiches are drenched in this dark, heavy sauce that ruins the pork.

I do not recommend this restaurant.

Shorty's BBQ leaves a good taste in my mouth!. My family which includes myself, my husband, and 3 of my sons all love the pork sandwiches. I love their coleslaw too, never tastes like store bought to me. I have bought the pork sandwich platters and eaten it there (took my husband & took my mom), also took it home with me. Twice in the past few months we have also enjoyed the take home pork with sandwich rolls and sauce, french fries and coleslaw. It's very good and the price isn't bad. Order plenty, you will be glad you did! I had iced tea w/lime & my husband had a cold beer. Check your order before you leave so you can go home and enjoy your meal with the family.
