Editorial Review for Matheson Hammock Park and Marina – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
This park is known for its enclosed man-made lagoon, which is perfect for tots and youngsters. But there's also nature trails and mangrove-lined bike paths. The park also has a marina and a bait-and-tackle shop. Picnic tables, benches and charcoal grills border the lake and the beach has a snack bar. In the evenings, visitors dine at the Red Fish Grill, an elegant seafood restaurant overlooking the lagoon.

that restaurant is silly, come to fish and play but donteat chilean sea bass. its endangered. ive been going there since i was two years old, when my mother and i moved to this country. the amount of wildlife has decreased a lot. we used to go netting and find sea horses, star fish, and all sorts of organisms that are NEVER spotted there anymore. so enjoy matheson hammock as i always have but please remember that its on the decline, its not as strong or healthy and needs your care. chilean sea bass is endangered.

Cons: less biodiversity

I agree the park is great for sightseeing; if your into nature and can tolerate the heat. Don't make the mistake of seeking refuge from the scroching summer sun in the shade of the mangroves and surrounding brush and trees unless you've covered your body in about half a gallon of mosquito repellent. The lagoon and swimming area like most of Miami is overcrowded and congested. And naturally with this many people a bit untidy. Nevertheless, the park has some great scenery and nice picnic areas. I would recommend, if your on vacation, to go during the weekdays to avoid the crowds and make the most of your visit.

Pros: Beautiful scenery, nice picnic areas, unique wildlife

Cons: , overcrowded, not enough BBQ
