In Short – Go gourmet at this South Miami sandwich shop. Eat in or take out, wrap, French or baguette, hot, cold, meaty or veggie--there are plenty of choices. Favorite sandwiches include the Hemingway smoked marlin spread with Swiss cheese and the Bayou chicken wrap. Yummy veggie options include eggplant Parmesan and a Brie, artichoke heart and veggie concoction. Follow up any of the above up with a cafe cubano and home-made cookie for the perfect lunch.

Fresh and Tasty

Our office just ordered delivery from 1909 Cafe for the first time and we were pleasently surprised. The nice lady taking our phone order was courtious (and patient). My co-worker could not stop raving about the Hemmingway sandwich. The greek salad is as huge as the symphony of ingredients are varied but my co-worker complained about a certain "graininess" as if the lettuce was not thorouhly rinsed.
My Turkey Francaise sandwhich was great altough I think it could have used a couple of more slices of turkey. We'll be ordering from here again.

I've been to 1909 Cafe quiet a few times and I must say that it's become my favorite place to eat. The soups are amazing but they go fast, and the sandwiches truly are something to behold. Now, I've been around cafes before but I have yet to find one that gets as packed as this little establishment does at lunch time. I used to try to get delivery at that time, but it's impossible, so I recommend you either wait out the rush, or call a good while ahead of time. The place is loud, it's crowded, but it feels so welcoming! I find it more calm and pleasant in the early afternoons, a little after 3 but before 5 PM. The staff is friendly, though during the lunch rush it's hard to feel appreciated, especially when the person behind you is dying to place their order. My favorite sandwich is the Godfather. If you want to take me on it, ask for it hot. It's a heavy sandwich, so I don't recommend it for the faint of heart. I recommend it all the way. If you visit, I'm sure you'll fall in love with it, too!

Great Food... Bad Service...

If you are looking for a place that has a great variety of sandwiches and are made fresh to order you are at the right place. But if you are looking for that "good ol' " service with a smile look elsewhere... It seems as if the last thing on the staff's mind is their patrons. Oh, and forget about phone orders; they'd make it seem as if you were asking them perform brain surgery. Like I said... Good food... Bad Service...

- Cons: Sub-standard Service (where's the owner!?)
