Superb Dining Experience.
Dined at the SW 40th Street location. El Chalan's motto is "Where Cooking Is Still an Art" and this restaurant lives up to its motto. Delicious seafood. The Corvina al Chalan (Sea Bass with mushrooms and rice) was divine. The fish was grilled to perfection, tender, and juicy. The accompanying sauce was yummy. The Parihuela Mixta (Seafood Soup) was wonderful. Platanos Maduros (Plaintains) were perfectly prepared. Cafe con Leche and Cafe Cubano were excellent. The owner/manager is on hand and attentive, offering his recommendations which were spot on. The leather embossed menus and overall restaurant decor add to the quality dining experience. The restrooms are clean and high-end. Prices are very reasonable. You won't be disappointed at El Chalan Restaurant!

Best Ceviche in Miami.
Great ceviches and authentic Peruvian food. The lomo saltado is excellent as is everything else in this restaurant. I strongly recommend the ceviche mixto. Also the peruvian beers and sodas are excellent. Your kids will love "Inca Kola"

Nothing fishy about the seafood at this modest piscine specialist..
The Scene
If you don't habla espanol, make every effort to overcome the language barrier in order to dine at this stellar, budget Peruvian seafood restaurant with two locations (Miami Beach and Southwest Dade) where the fish is so fresh it could be sushi.
The Food
Seafood is featured in dozens of simple but elegant dishes such as mariscos con arroz (seafood and rice), which resembles paella minus the chicken and sausage. The tender grains of saffron infused rice are mounded high on a plate and hold what must amount to more than a pound of white fish, tiny mussels, clams, shrimp and squid as well as peas and onions all delicately seasoned with just a touch of lime and salt. Also worth raving over are the many ceviches, such as a generous bowl of the tangy and tender snapper. Non-fish lovers will find plenty of land options from spaghetti with beef sauce to grilled chicken. Fresh-squeezed juices like a sweet and icy lemonade are perfect for hot days.
