In Short – Since its beginning in a campus classroom in 1948, the Lowe has strived to create an encyclopedic collection of art. A stroll through the galleries, from ancient Greek sculpture to modern Cuban painting, illustrates its success. Generous University of Miami alumni and local benefactors ensure that the collection continues to grow, particularly with contemporary works like photographs by William Wegman and Andres Serrano. Pieces by Gainsborough and Gauguin hang next to modern works by Stella and Liechtenstein.
The Lowe is the place to be!

The permanent collection is great, but it is even better to see the special exhibits. They have 5-6 different ones each year! I love the art, but the best time to be there is the first thursday of every month for the monthly happy hour, "LoweDown at the Lowe"! There is free wine sampling and cocktails, music, hors douvres, and it is a great place to meet people and mingle. I highly recommend becoming a member to avoid the $5 cover and go to all the events for free!!
- Pros: Great art, Fine crowd, Educational
