Great all around experience.
This has been one of the best all around meals i have had in a long time. Yes it was a bit pricey but it was worth every penny and i am already planning my next trip back.
For apps, we got 2 different ravolis--habana and crab--delicious! We also got the scallop app-was fabolous as well. the table also tried the malanga soup and shrimp nuggets--both were delicious as well.
to main course-i tried the sea bass special with shrimp risotto, i am still thinking about it today. it was a perfect portion, extrememly tasty, fish was cooked perfect.
The table tried 3 different desserts..i would say the best one was one of their "specials" the chocolate cake with heath bar mixture forgot the name of it--was sooo yummy
Yes the entire experience took a bit longer than expected, the forced valet parking and extrememly dim lighting was a bit annoying, but not enough to not make me go back, the food and experience made up for those things
Average Food, Very Pricey, Arrogant Servers.
I guess I should have read these reviews. I went with my wife for a nice night out and our expectations were certainly not met. I heard good things, and it started fine with the appetizers, but it soon went sour. We waited forever (about an hour) for our entrees, and when they finally arrived, they were not as we had ordered!
Needless to say, we did not want to wait any longer, so we ate our dishes as they came. I was not impressed! I'm Italian and I know how to cook, and our dishes were prepared horribly (I had Linguine Alla Vongole and my wife had the Pear Ravioli).
This is beside the fact that our server was non-existent. All in all, we will not go back.
Terrible Place. Save your time and money and DO NOT WALK INTO THIS PLACE! This place reminded me of fast food Italian with Ritz Carlton pricing. I don't understand the positive reviews ... obviously they haven't gone in a while. If there was service in this place, it was non-existent the night we went. Average price is $120/couple for the worst food and service around.

After the much-anticipated hype and all of the rave reviews, we were incredibly let down. The service was horrible, the food was cold, the owner/manager was an arrogant A-Hole, and the atmosphere was dreadful.
We started our evening entering a very dark parking lot and forced to valet our car for $5. If there were other options, we did not see them. We thought this was strange, but not a big deal in the long run. Upon entering the restaurant, we received a disingenuous cold greeting from the maitre d' and we were brought to our “back room” table. There was no mood music, just a television on with a choppy picture and less than desirable news show about a brutal killing. Not what you want to see when sitting in a so-called "upscale" restaurant, or any restaurant for that matter. We quickly asked for the Television to be turned off, which they did, but with great hesitation. The owner complained that the room was too dark with the TV off and was irritated that he had to turn the lights up slightly.
At this point, we were still optimistic and brushed this strange attitude from the owner aside. We went on to order a few appetizers, bottles of wine, and our main course. The appetizers came out and were average at best. Can you say Olive Garden?? From here on out, things just went down hill! We waited about 45 minutes for our main courses to be served and they all came out cold. The food was below average and our waiter was less than caring about the situation. The next thing we knew, the Television was back on and we were forced to watch some horrific programming. When we asked for the owner/manager, he actually had the gall to say that he “doesn’t come into our home and tell us to turn off the TV.” He then went on to say that if “we don’t like it, then don’t come back!”
Trust me …we WON’T be back! I think everyone should think twice about this place and be wary of the positive reviews posted. They are obviously doctored by the owners and employees!!
Good Food, Abusive Pricing, Baby Portions. I was not impressed by this place i think it is hyped up very much. My wife and i had dinner for about $100 including, desert, tax, tip. The portions are very disappointing. I had a fish special on a saturday nite, the fish alone was 35 and tiny. Obviously this place may have a good local reputation but is in it for the money 100%. Any good reviews you see here are obviously paid employees and/or the owners. DO NOT GO 2 this place it is a rip-off.
Gables finest Italian with fantastic, intimate service..
We recently ventured to Café Vialetto to try some fine Italian food because of rave reviews from friends. It exceeded expectations so much that we have returned once per week ever since. This is 'our' place now.
The restaurant is intimate but not cramped. There is a private dining room, which we will use in the very near future. The mood in enticing, the lighting has a perfect dim attitude, and the background audibles range from South Beach-esque beats to easy listening tunes depending on the time of night you are there.
We are usually greeted by Marcelo or Ernie but a very nice hostess is usually in the mix. We always request to have Jared as our guy. He is fabulous. His extensive knowledge of the menu, both food and wine, make our experience tha much better. He has consistently individualized our selections so that we may experience all that the restaurant has to offer. He combines appetizers and entreés so that we can share the delights of multiple food items. Its special treatment that you just dont get anywhere in South Florida.
The wine list is deceptive because there are more wines than are listed. We usually bring a bottle of Aphorist (no cork charge) and have them cork it for us. it is their pleasure to do so. However, we were recommmeded a Merlot from Washington State called 14 hands. Its great and I highly recommend it.
The food. What can I say except everything we have tasted bursts with flavor. This place gets it. They use the perfect amount of truffles or truffle oil in their apps and entreés. Some restaurants are too strong with truffles. It appears as though all dished are prepared just for you. Presentation is top notch.
Appetizers: After enjoying some warm bread with a diced tomato and garlic bruchetta, we usually order a combo of 3-5 appetizers. The Ahi tuna on tostone with shredded veggies and white truffle oil is AMAZING. The diver scallop submerged in lobster bisque covered in baked provelone is also fabulous. We also enjoy the 'Shrimp nugget' with a very nice Thai sauce.
Marcelo served us an appetizer on the house consisting of gnocci, gargonzola fondue, bacon, and seared ahi tuna. Words will do no justice here....
We have enjoyed many, many entreés including the tenderloin with gargonzola fondue (incredible steak), 'Bernie's' lamshank (Fall off the bone good) - I recommend the Saffron Risotto with this, Braised Short-Ribs (delightful to say the least), and Pappardelle with Braised Short-Rib and Mozzerella (This is simply the best pasta dish I can remember tasting).
You can choose a combo of their 'Rockin Raviolis' which are each served with their own sauce on the same plate. I loved the filet mignon ravioli, crab ravioli, and pear ravioli. They have many more choices including ox tail.
The restaurant has about 10 desserts. We have tried them all except the mango Cheesecake. The breadpudding with pineapple and amaretto is ludicrous. The chocolate cake is great and the tiramisu is served with crushed rocky road on top. The trés leches is also magnificent.
I suggest you walk in after having made a reservation and bring your favorite bottle of wine. Have a seat at the bar (small and intimate) or hang in the foyer with a glass until your table is ready. We are never in a rush and sometimes have Marcelo seat other parties behind us because we enjoy the company of the staff while we wait. Try the 14 Hands Merlot is you enjoy red wine.
You will leave Café Vialetto completely delighted and your taste buds longing for more. It wont be long before you return and with each passing time, the food and the service gets better.
THE BEST IN THE GABLES. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE BEEN GOING TO CAFE VIALETTO FOR MANY YRS. EVERY TIME WE GO THE SERVICE AND THE FOOD IS EVEN BETTER THAN THE LAST. ALL DISHES R DELICIOUS. THE MANAGMENT (CHOPA & ERNIE) EXTREAMLY GOOD AND PROFESSIONAL THEY WILL MAKE FEEL AT HOME AND PAMPER YOU, AS WELL AS ALL THE WEITERS. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND CAFE VIALETTO TO ANY ONE. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU ON THE GREAT SERVICE.
Wonderful Eatery. the people were so kind and friendly willing to recommend dishes! the atmosphere was lovely. I'm from out of town but next time im in the area I will definitely go again :)
Good, not great..
This is a good restaurant that serves good food at gourmet prices. Beyond that, there is no direct connection between good and gourmet except for the bill.
Previous posts have mentioned the $7 walk-in charge. Do yourself a favor and park somewhere - anywhere but in their own parking lot, for which they will charge you $7 for the pleasure of your company.
Once inside, you may be greeted warmly (we weren't, some are), handed a menu with very few listings and recited the 15-20 "specials" for the evening. Good luck with retaining even half of what you hear. Our primary waiter was aloof and lacked charm.
We asked for a "green" salad each with sesame dressing (good) and two entrees: Short Ribs (very nicely done and presented off the bone) and the Veal Roast on the menu (also very good).
A bottle of way overpriced, but very good Malbec ($48 from an insanely over-priced average wine list), accompanied the meal. Service was good and attentive.
The place filled up with the late Gables crowd of the must be seen and wanna-be seen.
Overall, a nice restaurant and meal for which we would have been happy paying a $120 bill including tip and parking. Unfortunately for us, and the prospects of us ever returning, we paid $180 + the $7 parking lot extortion.
So many other places in the Gables and the Grove serve equally good food at a better value. We'll leave Cafe Vialetto to the in-crowd, whom apparently value being seen more than they value value.
Best upscale Italian but open your mind to new enticing combinations. Our first time was this past Friday. The pear raviolis witih gorgonzola cream sauce were like heavenly pillows. The rigatoni was perfectly al dente and the sauce was the ideal complement. The veal chop stuffed with prosciutto and cheese on a bed of risotto was one of the best dishes we ever tried. The sauce was a baileys concoction that just worked. The short ribs were off the bone tender and the risotto was creamy and delightful. The snapper and risotto was really tasty with a light pineapple sauce that made the dish. The chocolate bomb was rich and sinful. The service was fantastic. We can't wait to go back and try some of the other specials. I definitely think the specials are the way to go.
