Delicious cataplana!.
NOTE: I dined at the South Miami location on Sunset.
I went here for my anniversary with my boyfriend and absolutely loved it. First off, my boyfriend and I went to Portugal this summer and enjoyed the cataplana com polvo at a little beach restaurant in the Algarve region. I checked out the menu and realized the restaurant didn't offer it, but noticed a few other octopus dishes so decided to write them an email. I received a reply the same day from Carlos saying they would be more than happy to accommodate our request and asked for a date and time when we would be dining. After eating in Miami for a few years now, I was surprised and pleased at how nice and pleasant the interaction was. Not to mention, the email wasn't written in broken English or in a way that it seemed like I was bothering anyone. I appreciate the attention.
A few days later we showed up for our reservation and were promptly seated (again, somewhat of a rarity in Miami!). The decor was simple, yet elegant and actually reminded me of one of the nicer restaurants we ate at in Salema. The waiter brought fresh, hot bread and water and let us look at the wine menu before bugging us for any requests. Their selection of wines is amazing and I was really pleased to see a few different kinds of vinho verde. (FYI: We ordered the cheapest bottle and it was DELICIOUS!) The manager took our order and once I mentioned "Carlos", immediately knew what we wanted and took care of everything. In addition to our cataplana com polvo we ordered a cold polvo salad and mussels. Both appetizers were delicious. The octopus wasn't overcooked/chewy, with a succulent center. The mussels (a special of the day - not the New Zealand ones) were amazing - a good broth with just a hint of spice. The cataplana was so good - tomatoes and green peppers stewed together with potatoes, clams and octopus all served in the copper cataplana pot. AMAZING!
I highly recommend this place. We had great service (the kind of place that fills your water glass before you can ask them) and amazing food. We'll definitely be back!
