Brightly colored, quirkily decorated and close to the beach and the creek..
The Scene
Built in 1936 and completely renovated in 1999, this 61-room hotel is right next to Indian Creek and one block from the beach. It has the barefoot casualness of a Key West inn and the Old-World ambience of a European resort. The large lobby lounge is decorated busily with bright yellow walls and splashes of colorful paintings set off by hardwood beamed ceilings.
The Details
The furniture is brightly upholstered, and the walls are painted a soft yellow. The small dining area is done in a warm sienna faux finish; from here, French doors lead out into the large, private garden courtyard that surrounds the pool. Guests can unwind with spa treatments. Casual meals are offered at Creek 28..
GOOD DEAL. LOOKING FOR A CHEAP PLACE TO STAY? IT'S CLEAN, COMFORTABLE AND CLOSE TO EVERYTHING. GREAT DEAL.
Don't believe the hype!. You feel like you've stepped in to a time warp or the movie set of "Casablanca". The hotel is quaint, and charming if you are from Europe and are used to the small and rather damp musty rooms. The bathrooms are tiny and need upgrading, and although its lovingly "restored", does that mean we are sleeping on "used" and recycled furniture? On the plus side, the lobby is full of character, and the tropical garden with a small pool is a nice feature. And the location is a short distance to South Beach.
