view & uploadpelican breakfast!!!. great spot for breakfast/ brunch!! friendly staff!!
Good happy hour. We did not stay at this hotel, but we did stop at the restaurant for happy hour. The sidewalk portion of the Pelican Cafe had drinks half price and certain appetizers for $7. The people-watching was great because this place has a prime location on Ocean Drive. My sister ordered a Red Stripe, which was cold and $2.50 during happy hour. Can't beat that! My watermelon mojito was delicious, much better than the flavored mojitos at News Cafe, and only $5 during happy hour. We also ordered the fried calamari, which was pretty decent for only $7, was lightly fried, and came with some lightly fried, tempura-esque vegetable strips. Perfect happy hour location.
I heart the Pelican. For its kitschy, themed decor and chic location on Ocean Drive, this hotel is a fun place to stay in South Beach. I love the fact that each time you visit, you can wind up in a different room, from a saucy Hollywood boudoir to a zebra print-decked suite. The on-site restaurant and sidewalk cafe is a perfect spot to gawk at all the pretty people.

The Scene
This 30-room hotel is owned by Diesel fashions, and their quirky stamp is all over it. To enter the hotel, guests walk in through the busy bar to the back reception area. Here, they'll be greeted by a space-age Western motif. The reception desk, for example, is made of studded leather. A neon fire blazes in one corner. Diesel ads, naturally, line the walls.
The Details
Designed by Magnus Ehrland, all accommodations are themed with names such as "Best Whorehouse" with decor to match. The showers are designed to produce the feeling of standing in the rain. The three-bedroom penthouse suite is the hotel's pièce de resistance. The kitchen has Subzero-style appliances, and the living room boasts a wall with nine video screens as well as a six-foot fish tank. Celebrities from Yoko Ono to John F. Kennedy, Jr. have slept in the master bedroom.
Great People.
