Great Place. The Essex House was a great place to stay. The rooms are groovy, pretty clean & you are close to everything. Just make sure you request NOT to be on the same side as the disco of the hotel next-door. Just an FYI - they give discount parking next door in the parking garage, just show them your room key. Enjoy

Old meets new in this elegant Art Deco hotel.. The Scene
Designed by legendary architect Henry Hohauser in 1938, this four-story landmark hotel was completely renovated at the turn of the millennium. It kept intact its original Art Deco style while incorporating modern amenities. The spacious lobby still features an original hand-painted mural depicting scenes of Seminole Indians and the early Florida Everglades.

The Details
There are 61 elegant guest rooms in the main building and 19 suites off the adjoining garden courtyard. Luxury is evidenced by the upholstered chairs, custom-made carpeting, marble baths and mahogany entertainment units. The suites overlook the garden courtyard and have Jacuzzis and wet bars. Both the lobby and the rooms are painted and decorated in soft coral tones. The hotel has no restaurant, but it does serve complimentary continental breakfast daily. Options for gourmet cuisine abound right outside its doors.

Artsy, Smartsy.... My experience at the Essex House was indeed rewarding. For a quaint hotel, situated 1 block from Collins, this is a great place. Very small, great staff, affordable and art deco. If you are on a budget but wish to stay in the heart of SOBE, this place is for you!!!!!
