A series of incarnations keeps this landmark hotel up-to-date..
The Scene
This yellow beachfront Art Deco hotel is located in the up-and-coming area below Fifth Street. Built in 1936, the building was renovated in 2001. It is now operating under its fourth name. A mere block to the north is the start of the heavily trafficked Ocean Drive strip. Although there's a wide range of sidewalk cafes within walking distance, the hotel's continental Ocean Five Bistro is great for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's particularly noted for its thin-crust pizza topped with homemade Mozzarella cheese and baked in a wood-burning oven.
The Details
The 65 soundproofed guest rooms are small but elegant. Along with the suites, they have been updated to include European-style handcrafted furnishings, Italian marble floors, CD players and complimentary, high-speed DSL Internet connections. You'll also find more traditional amenities such as mini bars and safes. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the concierge can offer complimentary passes to many of the nearby nightclubs.
Great Bargain!. I was extremely impressed with the Ocean Five Hotel. My boyfriend and I stayed there for a week and found the staff very helpful and accomodating. When we arrived they only had a room w/ 2 queen beds but promptly moved us to a king room when they had space open up. The rooms were divine with unique touches here and there. It was on a quiet area of Ocean Drive so we were able to sleep in and the CD player was a nice touch. The beach is right across the street and it's within walking distance of pretty much everything on SOBE. I will definitely plan on staying here during my next trip to Miami.
