Editorial Review for Ice Box Cafe – by Lily Fu
In Short
Fitness buffs, fashionistas and business types dine at small wooden tables in a bright, modern space with a stainless-steel open kitchen, colorful art prints and hanging lights. The frequently changing menu offers grilled sandwiches and gourmet salads, as well as upscale takes on American comfort food, like the mango-pumpkin risotto, grilled ginger-marinated calamari salad and spicy Thai barbecued veal chops. Inside a glass case, desserts are showcased, including the sinfully sweet chocolate-raspberry cake.

Sad to say I had very high expectations of this place unfortunately the only thing I received besides what i ordered was attitude and no willingness to accomodate our requests. Made our experience very unpleasant..... would not go back again
Cons: bad service, plus gratuity is included.

I have been going to the Ice box Cafe since it opened. I have not had the opportunity to return this past year until the other day. I must say I was very disappointed. I found the entrees overpriced and the preparation of the food poor. The service to quote another review was "tragic" and "Hostile". In short I ordered the Lamb with Asparagus and a Potato Au Gratin for $28.00. The Lamb was bathed in an overtly seasoned glaze and the potato au gratin was ice cold in the center. My entree took 20 minutes to arrive from the kitchen on a slow night and the only time a wait person approached me throughout the dinner was to take my order and deliver the food. I had to sit with a dirty plate in front of me for 5 minutes till I gave up and walked over to the register to ask for my check. No desert was ever offered. The restaurant also adds a gratuity of 18% to ALL checks a guarantee of horrid service in my book since the staff doesn't even have to work for a gratuity. The most unforgivable aspect of the restaurant is the audacity they have to serve an entree for $28.00 and give you a paper napkin. When I did dispute the 18% gratuity when presented my bill as is my right the waitress/cashier proceeded to argue with me. At no point was I asked what was wrong or was I given an apology. When I told the waitress I knew the owner she responded "everyone knows the owner." I have since sent the owner an email explaining the circumstances of the evening and have not heard back from him to date. I would avoid this restaurant at all costs. It appears that this is now just another tourist trap focused on turning and burning customers.
Pros: None
Cons: Waiters are the worst and add 18% to all checks. Food quality and preparation needs work.
