Great food and drinks. Looking for a restaurant to be with my friends on a thursday nite and found the Pelican Cafe in Ocean Drive. The hostess was very professional and sit us in the terrace were the ambience was perfect to be with friends and gaze at the people walking down the sidewalk. Our waiter an italian native was excellent in recomending from the menu including the fabulous drinks we had. The manager was very courteous and came to our table to talk to us even when the restaurant was very busy. Overall we had a great time with excellent food , great ambience and a waiter that was very helpful, we will come back.

Worst Eating Experience Ever!. This is the most over-priced, poor quality food and drink establishment that I have ever been too. I ordered a "surf and turf" that was just plain BAD! The lobster tasted fishy, as though it had just been thawed and it was the smallest thing I have ever seen for the money. The steak was at best average for the price. The drinks were watered down and very expensive. The wait service was below average and not very helpful. Be careful, they add a tip to the bill without telling you. Find another eatery to spend your hard earned money - South Beach is full of much, much better places to eat for this kind of money!

Strange. Waiter sort of rude "what do you want attitude". start with 4 pieces of bland bread in a paper bag - asked for butter and olive oil; got a huh!? in response; did get the butter but no olive oil (they thought we were being too cheeky asking for both); then the meal - crab cake appetizer (a single solitary small crab cake); very meagre serving of pasta with clams (pasta was solid and quite hard); a couple of lime drinks (no alcohol). ah! finally the bill - $60! wow!

good food, but bad manager!. The hostess asked us to join them! So we decided to give a chance.. We wanted a table inside, but the manager said no because all the tables were reserved. So we seated at the terrace.. When I went to the restroom (witch is inside) I saw the almost 20 tables empty!! So I call him and ask again if we could seat inside, because my daughter was cold and he told us the same thing.. Almost one hour after that we finished our dinner, but there was nobody inside! Conclusion: The manager lied to us!! the question is: why he did that???

ridiculous management. we were enjoying our weekend, walking on ocean drive 3 or 4 month ago and suddenly decided to get a drink and feel like a tourists, sit down on ocean drive and relax. so we stopped by this place and asked the hostess if we could get a drink on the terrace and maybe get an apps or something.. so manager came up to us and told us that we have to decide now if we gonna eat or not, cause if we don't he cant sit us on absolutely empty balcony. as we were leaving, heard him saying pretty loud to the hostess "don't bring me that garbage over here".

that was ridicolous for completely empty restaurant to lose 50 bucks on drinks like that..

HORRENDOUS treatment of workers!. Pelican's restaurant charges a more than 30% tip on the bill! The menu says very clearly at the bottom that you can choose to tip less if you would like. What it does not say is that when you choose to tip less they take the difference out of their workers paychecks! I was horrified by the things that the manager said to me. When I confronted them on this they explained that the workers lived in shacks and accused me of shortchanging them, as if they were poor because of Pelican's customers rather than because Pelican takes advantage of migrant workers and does not pay them a living wage. It was unbelievable. He then proceeded to say, "Well, you know what you're getting when you come to a place like this." This was the ugliest treatment I have seen of workers in my entire life. Our waiter, who had given exemplary service, looked so scared that he was going to be fired. His boss had made him feel like it was his fault that I was unwilling to tip at 30% and that I was confronting management about it. If you have any moral compass whatsoever, PLEASE eat and drink somewhere else. There are plenty of great restaurants and hotels on the strip that do not do this. It's not worth a few bucks off your drinks or dinner.

Editorial Review. Beachfront diner cooks up Mediterranean dishes with a strong Italian influence on the tourist-heavy Ocean Drive

Nice location, terrible food. Had a set menu dinner, and was quite shocked at the food quality. The black linguini seafood pasta had the worst quality of seafood. The fish was very dry, and it was quite obvious that the calamari was not fresh. Key lime pie was average, but the tuna carpaccio was also not exciting. Average time to serve each course was 30 mins.

Relaxed and cool. Was visiting Miami over Easter and had seen this place online, wanted to try out since the I heard the Diesel designers owned this, had lunch - great bruschetta to start and a wonderful turkey salad for meal. Went to breakfast next day and had a tasty french toast and sausage. Antonio was our waiter both times and had excellent service. Great music and a relaxed and cool environment to dine in and watch SoBe go by.

It's Okay...But There's Better. My experience at Pelican was okay. We were seated promptly and service was quick. I had the Shrimp Fettechini (sp?), which was not great at all. The shrimps were dry and had not taste whatsoever, and the Fettechini was bland. Besides the food, it was a pleasant dining experience. Dinner for two came out to $80...I don't think it was worth it at all. I will not go back there again. There are way better restaurants on Ocean Drive than this.
