Absolutely horrible experience!.
Here in Miami on vacation and we were out for a nice dinner on Lincoln. We've eaten at Soprano's previously and really enjoyed it. We nearly went back and after this experience with La Lupa di Roma, we were seriously regretting that decision to try something new. While the food wasn't bad, it wasn't great either but that's not the reason for my poor review of the restaurant.
We had the linguini with prawns dish served that tasted completely "off" and was inedible. As another reviewer stated, it tasted completely fishy as if rancid fish stock was poured over it. When we tried to have the dish swapped out for something else, the owner ("Momma") came out and simply started berating us all. "I am right and you are wrong. This is my best dish" she kept repeating over and over. The one bite we tried constituted "ruining" her dish so she refused to exchange it. Not only did she refuse but the degree to which she tried to belittle us for even asking left us all bewildered. I've heard service can be bad in Miami but have never been treated this poorly in any restaurant ever! And to top it off, they tried to charge a mandatory gratuity which I in turn mandated they remove.
As a result, I certainly won't be returning and will make certain everyone heading for Miami now knows about this place and how they like to treat their "customers". Unbelievable!
Be treated like family in South Beach...good food too!. Anyone who knows South Miami Beach knows that it can be a *lot* of fun but that it's also a pretty superficial place. Yet in the midst of it all, La Lupa di Roma is a quaint family restaurant that will take good care of you. The food is excellent; the prices are fair; the wine list is excellent and not overpriced; and the waiter will be as enjoyable as the food.
Never again!. Having wandered Lincoln looking for a good place for dinner we decided to try La Lupa di Roma. All went well until the food arrived. My linguini with shrimp in tomato sauce arrived wtih 3 giant whole shrimp, heads, tails and shells intact. I asked the waiter if he could have the kitchen shell the shrimp which took 3 waiters to understand what I wanted. When it came back the dish tasted as though anchovy juice had been poured through it - it was so pungent , disgusting and strong it was inedible. My partner had the gnocchi which we were assured was one of their best dishes. The gnocchi varied from undercooked and floury to quite hard. No one checked on us throughout the meal. When they came to clear I very nicely and apologetically let them know I couldn't eat the dish. They had conniptions and called over the owner who - get this - TOOK MY FORK AND ATE OFF MY PLATE!! She then yelled at me saying it was my fault as I had sprinkled parmesan cheese on the dish! She eventually stormed off from the table, not offering another dish nor an apology, slammed the check down and stormed off again. None of the waiters would even look at us after that let alone speak to us. We even walked the check to the waiter rather than leave cash on the table and he bade us farewell with a prize winning scowl. There are too many great places to eat on South Beach to bother with this one. The food was horrible and the attitude of the owner was just plain rude.
A Real Miami Beach Experience. This is my favorite restaurant on Miami Beach. This is why you come to Miami Beach; to have a relaxing dinner in one of the world?s most famous locations. The restaurant is family owned and operated. The staff is personable and professional. The staff does not rush you through dinner to quickly free up the table for the next customer, nor do they serve sub par food with an expensive price tag to unsuspecting tourists. The Niccis want you to enjoy yourself. You can?t go wrong with anything on the menu. My favorite is the chicken and pear. It?s been taken off the menu, because so many people tried to alter it, but if you ask for it, they?ll make it for you. The lasagnas are her specialties, and the steaks are the best on Lincoln road. The wine list is impressive and extensive. When it is time for dessert, don?t take the opportunity to see what else is on Lincoln Road. The best tiramisu is here, and the also have a great chocolate offering which is not ice cream or gelato.
