Editorial Review for La Carreta – by Rick Munarriz

In Short
You'll find several generations of Cuban Americans in abundance at this makeshift farmhouse. The island's signature staples are all on the menu, served up quickly and surprisingly cheap. From arroz con pollo (yellow rice and chicken) to ropa vieja (shredded beef), the offerings are usually tropically seasoned without ever bordering on spicy. If you've saved room for dessert, the rotating display case tempts with flan (egg custard) and arroz con leche (rice pudding).

I've been to La Carreta since I was a kid with my parents and I loved it. Now as an adult with my own family, I really don't recommend it as a 5-star restaurant but as maybe a luncheon type of place. Even then, there are better places. The parking lot is a mission to get into. The place is always crowded and the hosts and waitress are not all that friendly and accommodating to its clients. One day, I found a long hair in my beans, and since then have not dined there again. I was so digusted by the place, and its "lack of" cleaniness my family and I will never go back there.

Pros: The garlic bread starter

Cons: ambiance, service, cleaniness

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended
