Authentic Food, Amazing Atmosphere!!. I have been meaning to try this place for a while, and now that I finally did, I am almost mad at myelf for waiting do long! The food is amazing, went there for the lunch buffet which was so full of mouth watering items, I literally didn't know where to start. They change some of their items daily too, becuase when I went back later in the week they had a different meat at carving station. Also, it was unbelievably inexpensive - under $15 for all that food! We ate outside on the terrace, now that the weather has been so amazing...it was so peaceful and lovely out there. Everyone must try this place, you are truly missing out if you haven't.
Delicious Italian and Yummy Desserts!. La Palma Restaurant, in Coral Gables has been in business for 17 years, but it was not until last weekend that I had the opportunity to dine there. This hidden gem is located on a historical site in the Gables dating back to 1924. But, beyond it’s history, what makes this restaurant really special is their delicious authentic Northern Italian food and incredible homemade desserts. La Palma is a great date location, especially on the weekends when they offer live piano music, or perfect for a quick, but delicious lunch - their scrumptious lunch buffet is under $13. Mangia!
Tasty food, hidden nook. I am new to the area and came to La Palma with my bf who was visiting from out of town. We wanted to have a special night. I heard La Palma was really romantic...and that is was! We were seated in the courtyard in this little nook. So private! It was all lit up and truly the best night. The food was delish! I had pasta and my boyfriend had fish...both were divine.
A real treasure. After all of these years La Palma is still the best find in Coral Gables. Great Food, Friendly staff and exquisite ambience. What else could I ask for
quite poor and is not recommended for the price.
We dined at La Palma in Coral Gables on Memorial Day 2009 (May 25, 2009). We paid almost $100 for 1 terrible meal, 1 good meal, 2 glasses of wine, a lack of atmosphere, and a lot of bad service.
The Food: 1 meal was the pre-fixed “Miami Spice Menu” where for $36 you choice an appetizer (pear salad), entrée (mahi with shrimp/calms), and desert (crème Brule) from a set menu. The starter bread was terrible, the salad was very good, the mahi was the worst I have ever had, and the desert was good. I eat Mahi on a regular basis, and have been for the last 10yrs. I usually have a fresh fliet grilled with some spices and lemon and I know what good Mahi tastes like. Either the fish was bad (it tasted spoiled), or had been overwhelmed by the seafood broth that the accompanying shrimp and clams were cooked in, but bottom line was it was so bad I ate a few bites and didn’t touch the rest and then had stomach pains for 2 days.
Meal 2 was a Filet Mignon for $35. Very good cut of meat, prepared as ordered, sides of vegetables were poor (over cooked, and plain).
The Service: more like what service. The place was seemingly slow for what I have read about this place—no live music, 2 other 2-tops and 2 8-tops. Our waiter was not understandable (I had him repeat the specials twice and we still couldn’t understand him). After we ordered we never saw the waiter again until the check, or the maître d', or the chef—in my other fine dinning experiences this never happens. We debated as to make a scene to send the meal back or see if anyone cared to check on how we were doing. We decided on the latter (see if anyone cared to check on how we were doing)—and since no one did we tipped 10% and left never to return.
Bottom line—this place might have a good outdoor patio and maybe does some meat entrees well, but overall it is quite poor and is not recommended for the price, you can do much better elsewhere in south Florida.
Awesome. Our family went to La Palma for Father's Day Brunch and had a wonderful experience. The food selection was superb and the service was excellent. That's why when our son and his fiancee told us that they were getting married, we all agreed that the best place to have the reception was at La Palma's Courtyard. When we contacted Laura, she was extremely helpful, assisting us with all the little details. Our son's wedding is in 2 weeks. Unlike some of our friends who have told us horror stories about their wedding nightmares, we are truly enjoying this special time, thanks to the assistance provided by La Palma.
ANOTHER SIDE OF THE STORY. I was sorry to hear about the experience described by PearlGirl and felt compelled to write so that anyone who reads these reviews will hear the other side of the story. I have been a frequent customer of La Palma since it opened fifteen years ago and have always enjoyed the best of service, the warm and welcoming environment, the delightful entertainment and the delicious food. I can't imagine how a chat with the manager would not have helped to resolve any issues she was experiencing, but I hope she and her companion(s) will give it another shot sometime in the future.
As great as ever. I never write reviews or participate in chats,, but after reading the only negative comment below, (which is probably written by a competitor as it seems they managed to hate everything as if they were using a checklist and I saw the exact same word for word review for another local restaurant) I had to respond. I always schedule my important business meetings there because everything has been consistently great. I am Italian and this is how Italian food is supposed to taste. I am a difficult customer, but this is a restaurant that deserves all of the accolades they have received..
Great spot for a business lunch in Coral Gables!. With so many great restaurants in Coral Gables, La Palma has an edge. I went with a colleague of mine and we wanted to go to some where different. It has a great ambiance and the cuisine to match. With a top notch business lunch buffet and service that is superb, it was a great dining experience! Their tiramisu was excellent!
Gross food, horrendous service.
I'm shocked to read these reviews! I was there last night for dinner and had one of the worst dining experiences of my life. We waited 45 minutes for our food. During those 45 minutes we didn't see our waiter once and had to ask someone else for water and to check on our meal. When it finally came, I had the crab ravioli my companion had the snapper, it was horrible. I've made better tasting crab ravioli. I wasted $25 dollars and an hour of my life. Finally when it came time to pay our waiter was of course right there so we were able to get out quickly which was the only plus. Except that he blatantly looked to see right in front of us how much we had given him, 15% even though service was awful, and scowled at us!
I will NOT be returning.
