The ornate Gusman Center for the Performing Arts is South Florida's most beautiful theater. Originally built in the heart of downtown Miami in the mid-1920s, this 1,800-seat labor of love was designed to enchant audiences. Designers went to great pains to create the impression of an outdoor amphitheater by fashioning hundreds of twinkling lights in the dark blue ceiling. The architecture resembles a Mediterranean amphitheater under the stars, and the stellar acoustics and easy sight lines make any seat in the house a good one. Despite difficulties procuring funding, the Gusman has managed to survive.
