Scottrade is a very helpful stockbroker, and if you are the sort of person that prefers to make their own trades, their rates are lower than most and free from nasty hidden charges, such as for closing an account. As a rule, I do most of my business online, but their office on Brickell has free parking, or at least it did a couple of years ago, and they are quite efficient. I am not an expert on brokerages, but Scottrade is cheaper than Schwab by a bit, and they are a LOT less than Legg Mason or Merrill Lynch, and there is always someone one can talk to about transfers and the like, which I did not find to be true of Waterhouse or eTrade.
Pros: Lower rates than most, friendly and knowledgeable service
Cons: I did not ask Scottrade for investment advice. Their website has a lot of useful info, though.
