Editorial Review for Blue Heaven – by Bill Citara
In Short
More than 100 years ago, this colorful, ramshackle building and rambling courtyard were home to gambling, prostitution, cockfighting and boxing matches refereed by Ernest Hemingway. Now, home to more prosaic pursuits of dining, drinking and selling trinkets, it's an endearingly funky mishmash of picnic tables, bars, a gift shop, a water tower, a pingpong table, a rooster cemetery and actual roosters. It's everything eggs in the morning and Caribbean/continental for lunch and dinner.

If you enjoy being insulted by an obnoxious, old sea hag of a hostess whose face looks like a wrinkled old catcher's mitt while waiting an hour for a seat, then this is your place. If not, then DO NOT GO THERE!!!! Because I know I never will again. So much for Key West charm. I guess when a place becomes a well-known tourist attraction, courtesy and customer service take a back seat. I will be sure to tell everyone back home to boycott this place on principle. There are plenty of other great restaurants on the island where you don't have to put up with a bitter old woman who hates her job while you are on vacation. If I were a manager at Denny's, I wouldn't even consider hiring her to wash dishes.
Cons: Hostess was obnoxious, self-rightous, and flat-out rude.

If you go to the keys make time to visit this restaurant. It is pricey but worth it. Do try to go when the rushes are over. My husband, my eight year old son and I went for brunch on a friday and were seated right away. This place was awesome. made me feel like i was in the tropics, my son loved the chickens and cats, i loved the whole place!
Pros: truly an experience. You wont dine in another restaurant anything like this one.
