Editorial Review for Mangoes – by Bill Citara

In Short
Mangoes is the ideal illustration of the truism that sloth is the Keys' favorite leisure activity. As one of Key West's most popular lunch spots, Mangoes serves up light, simple fare during the day and heftier, more adventurous dishes by night. Lunch specialties include some of the only truly worthwhile conch fritters on the island; a rather dry wrap of roasted chicken, cheese and mango chutney; and a fat fish sandwich overflowing with grilled tuna.

What To Drink

Since you're outdoors, the citrusy, not-too-sweet sangria is your best bet.

We had plans for a schooner trip so we asked the waiter how long the average lunch would take. He replied 20 minutes so we were relieved that there would be no problem. We placed our drink orders first then a few minutes later we ordered our food. The first hint of trouble should have been when our waiter returned to ask our drink order. As we were waiting for our food, the host seated a couple a few tables away from us. When we realized that couple already received their burgers and we were still waiting we became concerned. We called over the host and informed him we had been waiting over 1/2 an hour for our food. He made some lame excuses and somewhat arrogant comments and the waiter claimed the problem was the "big burger" . Anyway after almost an hour and a missed schooner trip our meal finally did arrive--wrong. I requested no tomato on my club, which the waiter repeated, but I got tomatoes anyway and my husband's burger was missing bacon. No one offered any explanations for our aggravation. Oh, and there was at least one other couple seated near us with the same waiter who complained about how long thier food was taking. AND the don't take American Express.

Pros: nothing

Cons: bad service

This is a great relaxed place on Duval. From the time you arrive until you leave, and there is no rushing you to go, it is a relaxing place. Great selection of food and drinks. I have been there for both lunch and dinner several times and never had anything but great food and service. I look forward to going there again when in Key West.
