Sand Castle Guy Editorial Review

The Scene
In South Beach the meandering oceanfront sidewalks of Lummus Park are a favorite stopping point for tourists who pose for pictures against the backdrop of candy-colored, art deco buildings. But lately, crowds have gathered to admire and photograph an architectural wonder of a different kind: an immense sand castle decorated with Gothic wet sand drippings and sea shell accents.

The Story
Measuring upwards of 10 feet tall, and at least as wide, this fantastic creation is hardly kid stuff. It's the work of a 20-something South Miami artist (known as "The Sand Castle Guy") who makes his living from tips left by appreciative onlookers. Wind, rain and other elements ensure that his work won't last long. Most days he can be found quietly replacing crumbling towers and fallen arches with fanciful turrets and spires. At night, lit by candles, the castle looks like a dream of Atlantis in the flickering light.
